Try this.Right click the game and run in 256 colors.After that dont close your game.Right click in the desktop and choose Graphics properties.You will see the color depth has been changed to 8 bit.Change it back to 32 bit. Hope this will work for you guys cause it works for me ^^

I would turn off your internet connection to play it. Itā€™s a tedious way but it works.

@Dustin_Radloff - If your Kaspersky is out of date then I would recommend uninstalling it and installing a free AV like AVG Free. Kaspersky is one of the stronger AV packages for the more security conscious and could well be what is blocking Game Dev Tycoon from running.

@Skinny - Thatā€™s not a known issue, i would suggest a uninstall, reboot, reinstall, reboot. AV packages like Norton are known to remove parts and files they donā€™t like which would explain that message. If your AV has an exception list i would suggest adding Game Dev Tycoon to it.

Hey, Iā€™ve tried doing everything here on the forum and nothing works (other than disabling anti-virus, disabling the internet or playing in safe mode). I donā€™t really want to disable anything or play in safe mode so Iā€™m just wondering if this bug will get patched in the 1.3.10 update FULLY so there is no issue. I did play the demo before I brought this game and it worked fine but Iā€™ve had persistent trolling white screens ever since I got the full game. If the whole white screen issue isnā€™t going to be 100% resolved could you at least give a rough estimate of the Steam release date as the issue will most likely be fixed by then. My computer is fully able to play this game with ease as it did the demo and I feel once the white screen of death has been resolved I will have no further issue.

Also, other games donā€™t have a problem with anti-virus and stuff, Iā€™m no ā€˜Game Devā€™ myself lol but shouldnā€™t these firewall and AV issues be easy to resolve?

we still donā€™t know why AV is interfering and this is not easy to track down. Given that this only happens with some AV software this makes it even more difficult to track down and chances are that this is in fact a problem with the AV software and we might not be able to solve this from within our game.

Ive found out that the problem is when my Virgin Media AV firewall booster is on then it just comes up with the white screen but if is switched of then it works fine! :smiley:

I tried doing what you said originally about uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling and then rebooting again and I still have to same problems.
If itā€™ll help iā€™ll give you the info you listed that might help

OS: Windows 7
AV: Non currently
My UAC is turned on right now, iā€™ve tried to turn it off but itā€™s not obvious on windows 7
Iā€™m not using any malware
Standard window firewall, which I have added the game too
I am the sole user of my pc
Realtek HD Audio manage and, Bluetooth, which is turned on

Itā€™s been almost a month now since I last posted on here and my problem, as iā€™m sure many others still stands. I really want to play this game but it still isnā€™t working for me. If someone could shine any light on this situation then it would be most appreciated.

Have you tried running the game with no active internet connection? Does this work? My guess is that there is still something blocking the app from running properly.

Not sure if it matters but a game I played a while ago wouldnā€™t launch if the audio was set to the wrong KHz or something along those lines I donā€™t remember much about it though.It happened a long time ago so Iā€™m going off of a barely there memory for it.

I doubt it is the problem but wouldnā€™t hurt to make sure.

Yes, I have tried that. Iā€™ve added the game to my windows firewall too and it still doesnā€™t work. I honestly have tried every suggestion that people have told me they have done and nothing has worked. Iā€™ve tried doing the same with the latest version too and the results are still the same.

Also, Iā€™ve tried adding the game to steam using the code I got sent today but it wonā€™t let me, saying that the game hasnā€™t been officially released yet and cannot be unlocked. What are the chances the game will work normally once I am able to play it via Steam?

Please help me Mr Dev man, I love this game and have been itching to play it again for the past 3 months, I will literally do anything to try and get it working again!

Did you fix the below issue you were having?

Having both the above issue and the white screen point to your antivirus blocking the game.
I know you said you have none but it would seem that something has kicked in.
If you can take a screenshot of task manager ā€œprocessesā€ tab and send it to me at support@greenheartgames.com i can examine what you have running that could cause this.

Hey there,
like many others I have the problem with the white screen. My solution: Run the game with Windows Vista compatibility - for me it works :smile:

I play the steam version which I downloaded today. To change the compability mode correctly I used the files in the steam folder. The desktop link for Game Dev Tycoon doesenā€™t work here.

Ok. I have a simple fix for all of you! First your going to want to go to the game folder and right click the .exe
Then you need to tick the box entitled launch with 640 x 480 screen resolution. Then you need to let the game launch. Then Alt-Tab out of the game and go to your desktop. Right click the background and click screen resolution, Change that to your usual resolution and click apply and ok
There is your fix.

PLEASE REPEAT THIS FIX IF YOUā€™VE COMMENTED EARLIER SO PEOPLE DONā€™T have to scroll all the way down!

Nope, nothing suggested in this thread works. I just bought it today (Aug 30th) on Steam and all I get is a white screen.

I run Win 8 64 bit and Comodo Internet Security.

Edit: To clarifyā€¦ not sure if itā€™s the same white screen as everyone else is getting but I get a white screen with a number of windows folders in the upper left, that are clickable but nothing happens if I do.

Edit again: I saw that this game uses Chromium? I run Google Chrome BETA channel as my default browser. Can that have anything to do with this?
Also, I have program files on C: and temp files on D: Can that be a cause, since my white screen shows the directory tree for D: in the upper left corner??

Because this is a long thread i am going to post this again;

In our experience the most likely cause of this is that some Anti-Virus and/or Firewall software is interfering with the application.
Please add an exception to your Anti Virus. If you do not know how to do this then let me know which AV you are using and I will find you a guide.
Simply turning the AV off does not stop all aspects of it from running so an exception must be added.

Please be aware that after adding the exception you need to validate the game files to restore any that the AV deleted.
Here is a Video guide on How to Verify the Steam Cache ;

If youā€™re not using Steam then please re install after you have added the exception.

Also please try these and let me know if any helps;

  • Also you can Run the game with Windows Vista compatibility, to change the compatibility mode correctly please use the files in the steam folder. (This has worked for some users)
  • Try to disable your AV temporarily (at your own risk - with the internet disabled).
  • Please make sure your service packs for your OS are up to date and that you close any background programs such as web browsers, email, instant messengers. Also make sure you are running the game as an admin.
  • Use Alt + Enter to take it to windowed mode once you hit the white screen
  • Right click the shortcut -> Properties -> Compatibility. Make sure you check run as administrator.
  • Disable desktop composition and disable desktop visual themes.
  • Disable msi afterburner or evga precision etc
  • Disable SLI
  • Disable extra monitors from multi monitor setups
  • Please run Game Dev Tycoon from an internal Hard drive not a flash drive as some users have experienced problems when using flash drives that are solved once they installed on an internal hard drive.
