German translation

Thank you Daniel. That helps me, to finish changes earlier.

Sorry for the double post. My mobile device has problems with the forum.

FYI:
I was in the hospital again. I’m now released, but it seems that my epilepsy is getting worse. Actually my doctor tries to figure out what’s the cause of my epileptic fits.

So please be patient if some translation needing more time than usual.

Hi @Charlie @DanielKlug @PatrickKlug!

Can someone of you ad a source description to the new strings 1422 to 1425?
Hard to translate them, if I don’t know when they appear and how they are used.
Seems to be ingame interactions, but could also be somethig of the UI of the patch support…

@Hyphon

‘Patch complete’ is the text that animates up from a character when they finish developing a patch.

The others are all used on buttons when deciding how to react to a event. The event is the one where you can decide what to do with an old engine (Give it away, Sell it, Refuse)

@Hyphon

For everyone who’s interested:
I’d like to say thanks to Hyphon for his work to translate the game. I have command of English, but I prefer my native language for a comfy evening with GTD. The sense for the work in progress is really awesome.
Also thanks to the other translators.

This game is worth much more than any AAA titles. I can’t wait for another games from GHG.
Maybe I’ll help to translate then.

Cheers!

@PatrickKlug: Thanks a lot (again.) I had the patch event just two or three times since I play GDT that I forgot how it works.

@Jaiden: Ich danke dir!

“Unterstütze ein junges Start-Up Unternehmen!”

English:

I have to thank you.

You are one of the few players, who appreciate my work in the public. But my part of the translation is small. I just accepted suggestions from the contributors. Without the people, that submitted suggestions, the other moderators and Patrick and Daniel, who really helped me how far they can, I never be halfway through the translation.

I really do the translation in my spare time, on a voluntary basis, without any payment.

How is it said in a achievement in GDT? “Support a young start-up!”

@Hyphon Great work!

A friend who does professional translations just has time this week to go over and ‘normalize’ the translations. She will look into consistency of style as well as the content and contextual things.

I think it’s a great opportunity to make sure that all strings have a similar quality. Long story short, we will go over all of the translations this week and then update as necessary. It will probably be best to freeze the translations in the meanwhile.

We will update the translations once that’s done and of course the current moderators can veto changes or adjust anything after this has happened.

Hey Guys,

I had an email from Sarah highlighting some thoughts she had. I will post it here as it may help.

Hey Charlie,

first something I have noticed:
You should decide how to translate "you"
In german we have two Options, depending on how well the people know each other
I saw the Press-Interviewer first saying “Sie/Ihr” (which is the polite form when they don’t know each other) in the next text sayin “Du/dir/dich” which is the form to use when they know each other better and in the last text (the tanks for your time text) back to the polite form.
Also, theres an inconsitent writing of “du/dir/dich”, sometimes it is written small and sometimes capitalized.
Both is correct, but it looks a bit… weird… if it is inconsistent in two sentences that are in the same box.
I think I have a couple of situations in the screens I will attach.

Also, the Researchpoints are marked as UP when they are shortened which makes no sence. FP would be okay, since “Forschung” is used for research. I am thinking since yesterday about that and don’t find any reason how “UP” came up.

Attached will be 25 Screens, at least I hope I can attach all of them to this mail. If you additionally need to know where these screens took place just let me know so I can add that.
I have marked the parts that are wrong, what exactly is wrong will be written below this sentence.

GDT_Bugs: better would be "klicke einen Mitarbeiter"
The “den” let the reader think, that you have to click on a particiular employee which is not mentioned anywhere.

GDT_Combination
Correct spelling would be
"großartige"

GDT_Contractwork:
Better at this point: “Bezahlung”

GDT_Contractworkoffer:
“ich” is not written capitalized in the middle of a sentence.

GDT_Developmentstage
"Entwicklungsphase" is one word, this affects all the dev.stages
Also, it looks not good that “Ausgewählte Features” is overlapping the costs.
There are some spots where texts are overlapping, which makes it hard to read. Idk if that happens due to having the game in window mode, but it just doesn’t look good.

GDT_EngineReminder:
the circeled word can be removed, it does not belong there or anywhere in the box. Also, a comma is missing after the “Vergiss nicht”

GDT_Gamereport3:
correct spelling would be “großartige” at this point

GDT_Gamereport4:
red marked:
first should be “gut” the other two should be "großartig"
blue marked:
Translation is missing but I have currently no good translation in mind.
If I find something I’ll let you know.

GDT_Gamereport5:
better wording:
"dass “playername” wohl eine Lehrstunde in Sachen Bescheidenenheit braucht,"
and
"Im Großen und Ganzen"
GDT_Gamereport6:
correct spelling: sollten
GDT_Interview: This is what I was talking about above, the “du” is used instead of "Sie"
But just replacing is not fixing it, you also need to change some other words then.
So it would be…
“Was sind Ihre Erwartungen” and “Glauben Sie,”

GDT_LargeBooth:
“Haupthalle” needs to be capitalized

GDT_News:
Correct spelling:
zugrundeliegende

GDT_OldEngine:
The comma behind “Fans” is incorrect
"haben "should be “hat” in this case

  • untranslated buttons

GDT_OldEngine1:Okay thats a bigger one…
My suggestion for a correct wording:
“Chef, unsere kürzliche Entscheidung, die Spielengine zu verkaufen, wurde von unseren Fans negativ aufgenommen. Insgesamt haben wir “amount” Fans verloren und einen Gewinn von “amount” gemacht”

GDT_OldEngine2:
Again, my suggestion for a correct wording, since it is nearly the same as above:
“Chef, unsere kürzliche Entscheidung, die Spielengine abzugeben, wurde von unseren Fans positiv aufgenommen. Insgesamt haben wir “amount” Fans gewonnen und einen Verlust von “amount” gemacht”

GDT_Press: I think no further explanation needed

GDT_Press1:
correct writing: "priorisiert"
second should be worded “besonders wichtig für so ein Spiel ist” or “besondere Wichtigkeit für so ein Spiel hat”

GDT_Press2: the first part is okay, but then it starts sounding weird. correct wording after the comma would be "hat “playername” von “gamecompanyname” die sehr mutige Bemerkung gemacht,"
The circeled “was” should be “war” and “übererfolgreich” is an adjective in this case and therefore not written capitalized

GDT_Press3:
suggestion for the part after the first comma: " dass playname besser aufpassen sollte, dass das fertige Produkt vielleicht doch nicht die Erwartungen erfüllt"

GDT_Publishingcontract:
The gamesize is not translated, should be “groß” in this case

GDT_Stereoscopic3D:
correct spelling: Fortschrittliches

GDT_TutorialBoost:
Again no explanation needed

GDT_TutorialBoost1:
Aufladeprozess is one word

GDT_TutorialRDLab:

  1. benutze die
  2. comma is not needed there
  3. the box is in the right lower edge so it would be “rechten unteren Ecke”

That’s it for now,
I hope it helps

Best regards,
Sarah

Let me know if you would like me to post the accompanying images!

@PatrickKlug: Good to know that. Thank you for the information!

Please noticed that I started to translate all system messages and tutorial messages with the personal form “Du” in lowercase and all stuff that is related to ingame messages (interviews, messages from the employees, contract agent) are the formal speech style with “Sie” in lowercase (employees, contract agent, encrypted messages, computer club message, fan-project) AND uppercase (G3, Interview inquiry). The only exception is the scam mail, which is intentionally mixed up.

@Charlie: Can you forward the mail to me, please? I’ll send you a PM with my email address.

Thanks to Sarah for bundling all the error’s in the translation. I’m sure that, some stuff is already fixed in the last updates but I can’t promise, because I just reworked around 20% to 25% of all strings.

Thank you Hyphon for your hard work!

Eine kurze Umfrage:

http://forum.greenheartgames.com/t/german-translation-target-audience-zielgruppe-naming/9498?u=hyphon

@Charlie Speaking of credits. Do we have a list of contributors compiled for the German translation? If yes, could you paste it here so that ppl. can double check?

@Charlie: I hope you have some names to add.

*Ruckpaul h3h3

@GDI121: Ich habe es echt mit deinen Namen, oder?

anscheinend

we’ve just published the latest German translation on Steam. This is a release-candidate. We plan to take the language out of beta early next year. I’ve updated the credits page but we also plan to show the names in-game when the German language is selected. The final release will auto-select German based on the OS settings.

Please report any issues with the translation in this new topic.
