Task manager :- Shows 3 Running GDT

hey guys,
I’m not sure if this is a bug, normal or just something random,

but earlier i started GDT to continue my game when it didn’t load up in the normal speed that it normally did
(click, 5 seconds later game loads)
anyways it loaded, but something in my head made me check what was running in the Task Manager,
at first i closed any problems i didn’t need, like my webcams auto-upload, and so on and so forth,

when i saw that Game Dev Tycoon - had 3 lots of process running,
at first i thought, “oh i most have started the game one to many times”,
so i reset my pc, tried GDT again, and shows 3 process again,
then i tried right-clicking the desktop logo and clicking open,
incase i was double clicking to fast,
to see that the same thing happens,

so yeah im not sure if this is a bug or normal
(could anyone check to see if they have the same thing coming up, and let me know if its a bug or just normal?)
and if it is a bug, lets hope Greenheart knows what the cause it :),

(i’ve blacked out the process, that has nothing to do with steam, GDT)

– also on a side note –
not sure if this is relevant, but is there a possibility that the triple process is the reason,
the game is slow to respond to opening the steam menu
(posted the above question on the steam menu not opening thread, just incase)

Whilst I can’t say for certain whether 3 threads is intentional, you should be aware that the game uses a library called node-webkit at it’s core.

NW operates in a similar manner to other Webkit-based software, such as Google Chrome or Chromium or Apple’s Safari, which means that a number of features (like each tab and each plugin for the web browsers) are sandboxed into their own threads automatically. This is most likely what is happening to GDT and therefore should be considered normal. Try opening a few tabs in Chrome, particularly with pages that use Flash or QuickTime, and then check Task Manager.

i dont use chrome, i hate it with a passion,

i’ve seen that flashplayer only recently has started running to show
"FlashPlayerPlugin_11_8_800_94.exe" twice,
<that only comes up when i go on a website that has a player on it, (like youtube and whatnot)

as for the Game Dev Tycoon - im pretty sure its not a node-webkit, seeing as its a game, but even then im only running ONE game, so surely it should show only one game?,

ive looked on other games like
Euro Trucker Sim~ 2, Prison Architect, Skyrim, Stardrive, Fallout: New Vegas,
Baldurs Gate: Enhanced Edition, Ometra: City Of Gangsters, Pinball FX2,
Evil Genius, Fallout 3 and Xenonauts.

none of them games show up with more then 1 process,
and of all the games that have anything to do with/can use the internet
thoses games being BG:EE, Ometra and i think pinball fx2.
none of them show up with any other process apart from there own.

now im not saying i know what node-webkits are or if games / what games use it / if any…

but im almost 100% sure that they shouldn’t kick in double/triple lots of the task manager process,

also, apart from the games listed above, i have other games that use steam/interact with steam (achievements, menu page, friends list, blah blah blah)
but even they dont pop up any more then 1 process

Node-webkit is a software library to allow a HTML/JS based application to run in a self-sufficient manner. None of the other games you listed use it. GDT does use node-webkit as has been stated many many many times on this forum. Also used are the CreateJS library, the jQuery framework and a number of jQuery plugins.

ah i see,
so its perfectly normal and doesn’t do anything to my pc / CPU usage (wont cause it to burn out from doing to many things / running to many things at once?

guess i was just paranoid about it because of it being something new that i’ve noticed,

(im guessing it shows that i take the security of my pc/well being of it
seriously :stuck_out_tongue: )

i just do :P, i much prefer firefox, as i’ve used that the longest and im at least able to fiddle with firefox better

I prefer Firefox. Are there more people in the Firefoxclub? (Random guy shows up that loves Opera. xD)

IE 10 is 10x faster than any other browser… I use it every day :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

If You would use Opera (It looks like fastets browser) You would post that 1 day earlier.

@Resinex112 I’m a computer technician and I can surely tell you, Internet Explorer is the worst internet browser in the world and is the least secured browser to use. If you don’t believe me ask any computer technician and they tell you the exact same thing.

Trust me, the Windows 8 IE is a lot better than the old ones, and the others don’t run as fast on my PC :wink:

Windows 3.1 was cool.

Windows 8.1 isn’t so bad.
Maybe it is stupid to use Interface like this in normal computer, but it ain’t no so bad.
Windows 8.1 RT, for tablets is cool. I like interface like this in touchy thingies.
