I’m taking the challenge. I’ll try to finish by the end of this week.
Thats how much money I earned when I beat the game playing regularly O_O
EDIT: Cross that, you’ve earned more than me…
Can I declare an I win yet?
Yes my friends, I broke the digits by releasing nothing but text games without an engine…
Nice score, but something is very odd about it.
It’s not shown right due to the fact that getting 100M points shoves all the digits right one. It’s a cute and excessively annoying bug that I’ve hit twice now.
I actually meant that it does not add up.
You made 134 games and thats really close to the maximum amount you are able to make in 35 years.
Taken that i wonder how you manage to improve your games when there was little time for training.
Also you would gotten stuck at 500 points.
I stayed in the garage for nearly every second of it. I goofed up when 14 games prior to the end. I have my full list of games produced and scores (with only one which I forgot to grab the score of) that I can post.
And complete copy of Review rating, Topic and Genre, my D/T scores:

And that’s everything released before Y36.
I slowed down majorly when I hit year 22. I was on pace for 150 games. I ran into a slight issue, and decided to start doing research reports again (single genre w/ two different +++'s anyone). I just let the last year sit. It definitely wasn’t near the score I had the first time I did it, but still not bad.
100 games on the dot…
EDIT: I never trained once. 300T 300D. To the guy that flipped the score, I’m with ya. You don’t have to train any. You very slowly in gain points as you gain levels. You don’t have to beat your score every game, but just come really close or match it. After a few games, you’ll keep increasing as long as you don’t drop below a 5 overall. After a lot of games and tons of fans, you’ll still come out good with a 3-4 overall.
I do owe you an apology, twice.
First of all when i saw your amount of fans at your end game, i thought you edited your save file.
But i was wrong, because i started to test your strategy and here is why i need to apologize twice.
I must admit i never thought of doing the challenge this way, and to be honoust it was the most boring playthrough ever.
The game could use a fix here, because it’s weird that making mass games with no improvements at all gives you a high score which is in general harder to beat if you would just play the game as it was meant to be played.
The amount of fans gained per game also does not make any sence. Sometimes i would score a 9+ and gain 180k and then a few games later i would have 250k with an 7+ game.
It went up and down throughout the game.
Hype didnt seem to affect sales and fan gain at all.
Did you ever notice you sell less than your fanbase every time in this manner?
I still have Fail’s save. I can review the game ratings in that as well.
In a normal game you would sell more then your fan base.
Small games are a lot harder to sell i guess
Monthly costs : -8k … lol XD
Now you, sir, know how to make profit ^^
it’s 8k just me in the garage, i wouldnt call that cheap.
My land lord is demanding a lot, but i haven’t told him that i make 2.2M a week making games
8K for renting a garage per month. Must live downtown?
The potential to point out degeneracies and problems with the game was part of my motivation for publishing the Sorrows’ Society Challenge on the forum. I didn’t expect that staying in the garage would be a successful strategy, but I suspected that by spurring people to play in a weird way, someone would find something.
The game definitely needs a fix here.
Oh I knew I broke the game when I released a full set of games without an engine as Fail Corp. There are edits I would put in place.
For starters games which are text based should start falling down the lines when the TES is released.
3D graphics popularity should begin around the same time as the Vena Oasis, and be stronger than 2D graphics by Playsystem 2.
In addition portable items should be stronger on 2D rather than 3D graphics.
Overall we have an overlooked category which needs to be created. Hardware match.
PC systems really didn’t have 3D graphics support back in the day you can start creating them. They were poor displayed games which were entirely based on fun over quality. Doom for example was a first generation 3D game.
I am also annoyed that Zork was not the achievement game title in the garage…
We also start at third generation consoles. I would of enjoyed trying to start with the true first generation. Does anyone else remember the Odyssey exists?
Wow…I hope in GDT 2 they make a plausible market environment with competing games that are NOT scaled to your games or company.
There are still modern games produced with primarily text.
Nevertheless, I have an idea for a rules patch that would reduce the score-superiority of this tactic. Playing this way reduces your T/D count. The even-more-broken garage strategies gimp it totally. If the end-game scoring mechanism gave more weight to your T/D Bubble Count, these strategies would be less prone to shooting the top off of the scoreboard.
Well, someone has taken the challenge to a whole new level.
