Strange Steam Bug

Hello there,

I have been experiencing this bug with Steam lately. When I start my steam client and I start Game Dev Tycoon it says I have to start a new game. If I go to the Load screen I can’t load any of my previous data. When I look into the data saved from steam on my computer I can just find the data, but Steam is not using it, he demands to start a new game while the data is just on my computer and I would just be able to continue fine. Steam doesn’t think so and doesn’t load my previous data anymore. Even when I remove all the data and place it back in the right directory it doesn’t want to load. I am playign the non-Steam version right now so it’s not a high-priority thing but I’m pretty pissed about my good saves which I can’t use because of Steam not loading them.

Any help wold be appreciated,
LineLiar

Hey @LineLiar

I have seen and heard about this happening before.

Did you use Steam on different OS? Ie play on mac then swap to a linux?
Somethings i have tried are going into offline mode, removing the saves, starting a new game, saving, putting the saves back in and manually loading one from the Load menu.
Then going back online and allowing it to sync.

However this can also be a symptom of save game corruption, have you loaded the same saves on the offline version and checked for any error messages?

I used Steam on the same computer I made the game on. I have not switched from Windows to any other platform. I will check the saves on the offline version and will give an update when I did it. Thanks for the help!

With some placing around with files, touching buttons on Steam and doing everything I could do with GDT on Steam I got it back! Thanks Charlie for the help and I’m gonna play GDT for now :stuck_out_tongue:

Great news!

Is there any update on this, or a known working fix?
I’ve got a similar problem: Steam on Ubuntu won’t synch the save games I made on Windows and manually copying the save file didn’t work (I can’t see the saved games in the load menu - but the tips I already got in the past games on Windows are showing up, so at least I know I copied the files correctly).
I’ll try to follow the workaround posted by @Charlie.
