np. info about latest version is also available on: http://www.greenheartgames.com/game-dev-tycoon-changelog/
Because of this update i got a 10/10 before exiting the garage.
Achievments are not fixed yet. I got 100M sales on a game but didnt get the achievement.
Iâm so jealous⌠I switched to Linux around the time the game came out on Steam (although not for that reason), but the tarballs are still at 1.3.13 and the Steam game isnât available on Linux
When is it coming?
EDIT: Oh. I just read the other posts in this thread. Iâm curious; if it isnât going to reveal any IP, business, etc. information, what are these unforeseen circumstances that prevent you from building the Linux version of the game?
Unforeseen consequences⌠God, I fear this roughly translates into âholy cow we got a ton of $$$ on windows store and steam, forget linux users who backed us way backâ. -.- Or, at best, a linux update is not a priority for the devs.
Prove me wrong, greenheartgames.
I donât understand why the windows and osx builds are released at the same time, yet every release we have to wait for the Linux. Could we get some insight as to why this is happening?
In general you guys need to be more up front with what is going on. What are the unforeseen circumstances exactly?
I think the linux version has more files to deal with, and it is easier to mess something up with Linux after adding new code.
I donât see how that translates? As far as I can see, youâre just being paranoid. Innocent until proven guilty, right? They havenât shown to have hit a gold mine by getting on Steam, so why act as if they turned into EA or some other corporate money-hog? Theyâre only a few people, jeez.
Edit: Not to mention everything is harder in linux if youâre used to doing things in Windows or Mac, I know I had a hell of a time doing stuff in Ubuntu when I tried it. Plus, if you feel the need to play the game, just play the one thatâs out now. There really arenât that many groundbreaking changes since the 1.3.* update, take it from a person playing 1.4.3 on Steam for Windows.
Itâs just that when the game first came out, before it went big, as a Linux user (who uses Ubuntu for its stability and ease, mind you) I rushed to support these guys. I thought they deserved payment for their hard work, as soon as possible. This is an unwritten contract of trust, you port on Linux and we help you out. We may be low(er) in numbers, but weâre rising (2% +) and looking after those who support our small user base.
I get the feeling you have a grudge against Linux users.
"Not to mention everything is harder in linux if youâre used to doing things in Windows or Mac"
Why the hell is your incompetence in using GNU/Linux in any way relevant to our request for a port?
I think the reason the game went big had nothing to do with its distribution channels, and everything to do with its awesome fake pirated version. You probably werenât trying to imply HOW it got big, but I love the awesome fake pirated version so much that I had to bring it up.
Letâs not turn this into an OS war of any kind. GNU/Linux, while easy to the average user, can be a handful if you donât have the experience most people have with Windows. Iâm just glad AGaruna gave Ubuntu a shot.
However, I must stress out that as a paying customer, I deserve no less than an up-to-date version. If it doesnât top the devs priority list, it should. Otherwise, I will be more than glad to accept a refund for the amount I paid. When accepting orders from UK-based customers, you have to up your game to UK consumer laws.
You do realize you have NO rights to demand that, right? You bought full product by your own choice. Any update is nothing but the good will of developers!
If you dont like it, stop using it wrong OS.
I would be really curious if you would try this on EA or Steam. they would screw you like screw with screwerâŚ
Paying customer⌠deserves⌠you made me laugh.
I hold no more of a grudge against someone who uses an open-source operating system than I hold one against someone who dislikes DRM. Iâm just stating that there is seriously no reason to complain about the port not immediately being available. Itâs like getting pissed because some bugfixes arenât available yet, thereâs barely any new content from the end of 1.3 to the start of 1.4. Plus, as stated before, if youâre not used to using Linux-based distributions then everything IS harder in Linux, unless you get the right flavor.
Anyway, I agree with him; in no way do I wish to turn this into an OS war.
First off, they actually DO. If they backed the product, then you donât give all the other people fine cheddar and give a select few moldy swiss. However, I donât think this has much to do with choice, and more to do with lack of skill and/or otherwise.
That is the biggest load of BS Iâve ever read. If you pay for a game in alpha, beta, or even working-but-not-done post-beta, you expect a certain level of âIâm going to get my moneyâs worthâ and âTheyâre going to fix these bugs.â As it is, the game isnât quite perfect yet.
If you donât like their choice in OS then donât tell them that their choice is wrong and yours is right. There is no ârightâ or âwrongâ OS.
Guy on street⌠conned out of a hundred thousand dollars by a Nigerian scammer⌠you made me laugh.
I agree fully with this statement. I just donât like to see it when people act as if the devs held off on purpose. Even with that logic, theyâd still hurry to get the Linux version done on time because that would mean MORE profits. First-time indie games donât usually sell all that well, so they more than likely arenât swimming in cash. Also, I still have Xubuntu on quite a few of my junky computers.
Hey Guys,
Lets keep this civil please. Every Game Company has different policies on the continuation of products, whether online services being closed, or discontinuation of support etc.
I can say however, that we are proud supporters of Linux and endeavour to continue to be so.
Only the one thing. If you buy alfa/beta you do have ârightsâ on full game. But after release you have no right to demand anything. So, please, be civil here. Im just saying how it is, nothing more. GHG doing great job and we should be glad for it. But people who DEMANDS their rights are just annoying.
Paying customers, demands and discussions aside - it would be interesting to know which unforeseen circumstances are preventing GHG from releasing the Linux version. Surely, not that much can have changed between 1.3.x and 1.4.x, unless we are talking about the steam libraries. In which case I assume it should be possible to include the appropriate steam libs for Linux? Pure guesswork, of course, but the silence is troubling.
Anyways, I do hope you get this solved sooner rather than later.
Good day to you all. Just like to say, this is my best buy in several years. I have spent lots and lots of dosh on games. Only to be sad and upset at what I paid for. And here I am looking at steam deals and see your game. The game is very well done, from what I hear it is a 2 people team!!
Kudos TEAM!! Great work and am looking forwad to your next release.
