Should I bother with 2D once 3D is unlocked?

Does using 2D give a bonus on certain consoles (or 3D a malus, ie: Gameling + 3D = bad)? Should I just immediately start using exclusively 3D once it’s available because it can get to higher levels?

I don’t know. I’m making new engines when I level up both 2D and 3D

It’s really best to focus on 3D.

2D not only doesn’t give bonuses on any consoles, it applies penalties on Large and AAA titles. It doesn’t sell too well as console technology down the line, either.

What I do is 2Dv2 => 3Dv1, and from then, always a new game engine at least every time a new 3D engine is available (and sometimes in between when a much desired feature is available for research). The sooner you arrive to 10 engines the better, in order to make the license engine research.

Advice : large games with 3Dv3 minimum, and AAA with 3Dv5 minimum
You can do without, but your ratings will be poor.

Large games work just fine with 2Dv4, since it’s on the same tech level as 3Dv3.

I usually skip 2D after 3D is available. find it rather useless to spend extra research points to keep them both.

Absolutely, but I have always found useless to search 2Dv3 and 2Dv4, as I knew I’d have to give up 2D for 3D sooner or later.

Okay, good to know. Thanks, all!

Thanks for all the helpful and concise advice guys! :cake: :fish_cake: :cookie:
