[REQ] An Unofficial GDT Mod Website!

The Game Dev Tycoon Workshop

This fabulous idea would unite the modders and consumers of Game Dev Tycoon (GDT). The Skyrim community is huge, but their largest modding ‘area’ isn’t infact on the Steam Workshop but on the ‘Skyrim Mods Nexus’. This is a website of which people can use mods at a click of a button! How great would this be for GDT and our growing community! I can predict that current players and new players will adore the new Mod System that Greenheart have made for us, and that if WE can provide mods easily and quickly to more players then the community will prosper!

My idea was a website for all GDT mods to join together and create the best source any player could have for playing mods. Below this will be a list of features the site would have and how they would make our experience of the game so much better!

  • A free download system. This will remove any hassle of signing in or signing up to download something.
  • ‘Recent Mods’ and ‘Popular Mods’ filters. This will make the latest and best mods available to look at instantly! Popular Mods would be controlled by the amount of downloads a single mod would have.
  • A search bar. Offering to the people what they want is the best goal we can set!
  • A quick and easy ‘Share’ option. Anyone could click on ‘Share’ and upload a mod, they will have to enter basic stuff (Name to go by, Email Address etc.) Their mod will then have it’s own page with a download counter and some info entered by the author.
  • A simple download function. To download a mod you just have to press that ‘Download’ button on the mod page!
  • A tutorial page. Anybody having trouble can refer to the tutorials or even just come onto the forums here!

These are some the ideas, I’m sure we can expand upon this! I’m not saying this will happen due to nobody having budget for this! Though if you are willing to try and create this website for free then by all means do it, I and the community would be EXTREMELY grateful! This has the potential to be a success! I know mods will become a big part of GDT, just like they have of Minecraft! Any comments on this or other suggestions to add to the list are much appreciated!

Thanks for reading! (If you’re still awake!)

We’ll need money to keep the site up.

I’m working on HTML skillz right now so I could do some stuff but It won’t be high-quality stuff until I actually finish my HTML tutorials.

Ok guys. Thanks!

I know HTML and the basic of JS.

Hmm. My skills aren’t really too good. I’m young so I only know python really, but I have enough common sense to understand and edit code. The thing about this website is that people would create a page for their mod w/ description, screenshots etc. and then also have a link to Github/Mediafire where others can download the mod. If any of you have used www.planetminecraft.com it would be awfully similar to that.

@DzjengisKhan is work for you.

Wut?

I think he is a good programmer.

Yeh IK. Did you mean he could help with this? Me and Djengis have already talked a bit about it.

Everyone does what he can, like github. We make the standard for page (Link to the homepage, etc…) and everyone can build own page for own mod. I think it is a good compromise.

Yep. Sounds good to me. Of course we would also need search bars, filters etc. To make finding mods easier.

The money for buy the site?

Hmm. That’s what me and Dzjengis had a problem with. Can we do it using free website builders, e.g. Wix, Moonfruit; or are they just not good enough?

For the start Wix seems good.

Message to everyone : I can try to copy a template for a forum based site and modify that. But this will take a lot of time. And since I’m also very busy with school I don’t have massive amounts of time. But I’ll give it a shot!

Hey dzjengis, any effort is appreciated! Yeh the forum style could do well, but I still think the page for a mod thing would be more user friendly.

I would work for the custom pages. I make a simple HTML page for example to everyone.

I don’t know it, never used.

I would love to help where I can with this initiative!
