Subj.
It’s already out.
Maybe not on Steam, but look at the download link that you recieved when you bought the game and version 1.4.4 came out a few days ago.
Had a couple of playthroughs and everything seems to be working fine.
EDIT: Although I guess if you bought direct from Steam, then you’ve still got to wait
Sad I lost a letter with link, so I’m still waiting steam version
Well if it’s out on download, it surely can’t be long til they get the Steam version up and running.
Hey Guys,
The Linux version is now available via Fast Spring. Supplying other distributors will hopefully follow shortly.
@optimusgd If you contact orders@fastspring.com with the email address pertaining to the original order they will resend the download links email.
@Charlie Will also be the same sale when you will release it on Steam? Because is a bit frustrating wait a lot more and also pay more.
Thanks.
I’m looking forward to the Linux Version going up on Steam. I want to be able to use my cloud save across devices.
Is there any ETA at all for steam release? :<
Linux build is live on steam
I loaded it up, and it promptly uploaded a blank file to the Steam Cloud, wiping all my save data. Thrilling.
EDIT: I’m currently working on finding a way to restore them by accessing the save files on my other computer. I’m not happy. I was told that the Steam Cloud was tested and confirmed to work across versions. I don’t think this is a Greenheart Games problem. I think it’s actually Valve that I’m angry at. Still, this is not what the Steam Cloud working looks like.
EDIT: This isn’t working. I can’t seem to trigger a download from the Cloud… at all. Swapping back and forth between computers, it keeps uploading my most recent save (for that computer). At no poing does it attempt an actual synchronization step.
EDIT: By deleting my local content, redownloading, turning off synching, reopening the client, and turning synching on, I managed to force a download from the Cloud. It downloaded the wrong file. Kindly have a link to the TvTropes page on Angrish.
EDIT: I give up. This is a wretched experience and I feel betrayed. I was specifically promised that Steam Cloud saves would work cross-platform. The only save I can make it load from the Cloud is the glitchy blank it should never have uploaded in the first place. That seems to be the contents of the Cloud now. I don’t know why my old saves still work on my other computer, and now I feel insecure about them. After all, Steam could decide to do a real Cloud synchronization at any time and potentially break those too. Now that the Linux build is live on Steam, I no longer get to play the game on ANY of my hardware.
Hey @Deskairn
Which OS (Steam) did you have your good saves on? Mac or Windows?
When you turned on your Linux machine it uploaded blank saves which were then downloaded to your main game?
Or are your main saves still in working order?
I would, at this point, strongly suggest turning off Steam Cloud on the OS which has your main save games.
I know achievements, trading cards and overlay on Steam Linux are broken. Therefore It may just be the cloud service for Linux is also not working.
My good saves are on Windows. My main saves are still in working order. If cross-platform saving is supposed to work, I fear that playing on could cause something to mess up at any moment. Maybe that’s an irrational fear. Turning off Steam Cloud would definitely prevent anything from going wrong.
Sorry for the hyperbole in saying that I can’t play. I’ll just play without the cloud saves. Thanks.
Hey no worries!
Its good your main saves are still in working order. There are some issues with the linux version so for now i would suggest turning off steam cloud on all devices to prevent future troubles. We are sorry about that, we are investigating the linux issues. When you see we have released a patch for linux i would suggest backing up your saves and then turning cloud back on and testing the functionality. This is good practice anyway as there are many known issues with steam cloud and device switching.

Though I am trying to run the game, it just loads a white screen, I can see a lot of people reporting this, but no one has anything to suggest, do you have any ideas?
Just to confirm you are getting the “White Screen” on a Linux build? Are your Graphics drivers up to date? and have you created an exception for Game Dev Tycoon in your anti virus?
Antivirus? What is it, lol?
Heya, thank you for responding
That’s a screenshot of my ati driver version and white screen from game dev tycoon in the background, and I don’t run any anti-virus.
The driver I have installed is the one that steam recommended I install
Hope this helps
Well I have some troubleshooting tips, however they are aimed at Windows users… I will post them here and you can translate them to linux because i’m guessing Linux doesn’t have a “run in vista compatibility mode”
In our experience the most likely cause of this is that some Anti-Virus and/or Firewall software is interfering with the application.
Please add an exception to your Anti Virus. If you do not know how to do this then let me know which AV you are using and I will find you a guide.
Simply turning the AV off does not stop all aspects of it from running so an exception must be added.
Please be aware that after adding the exception you need to validate the game files to restore any that the AV deleted.
Here is a Video guide on How to Verify the Steam Cache ;
If you’re not using Steam then please re install after you have added the exception.
Also please try these and let me know if any helps;
- Also you can Run the game with Windows Vista compatibility, to change the compatibility mode correctly please use the files in the steam folder. (This has worked for some users)
- Try to disable your AV temporarily (at your own risk - with the internet disabled).
- Please make sure your service packs for your OS are up to date and that you close any background programs such as web browsers, email, instant messengers.
- Use Alt + Enter to take it to windowed mode once you hit the white screen
- Disable desktop composition and disable desktop visual themes.
- Disable msi afterburner or evga precision etc
- Disable SLI
- Disable extra monitors from multi monitor setups
- Please run Game Dev Tycoon from an internal Hard drive not a flash drive as some users have experienced problems when using flash drives that are solved once they installed on an internal hard drive.
Also please check out this solution a user found;
http://forum.greenheartgames.com/t/win-game-doesnt-load-white-screen/430/118
The steps which apply to Linux would be:
- Make sure your OS packages are up to date and that you close any background programs such as web browsers, email, instant messengers.
- Disable desktop composition and disable desktop visual themes.
- Disable SLI
- Disable extra monitors from multi monitor setups
- Try running Game Dev Tycoon from an internal Hard drive not a flash drive as some users have experienced problems when using flash drives that are solved once they installed on an internal hard drive.
I would certainly recommend killing Chrome and Openbox, as either of those could be using resources that GDT wants.
