Huge issue with the steam version

I got my steam key a few weeks ago and used it. the game worked fine for a bit but today I tryed to play it and I got to my save game then the game crashed so I tryed again and made a new game but it crashed again I have no idea what to do now to fix it.

Did you try reinstalling the game?

No I will try that, thanks

Wait, with Steam specifically you should try verifying the cache first.

Did you get an error message when you crashed? If so what did it say?

Um the message said Game dev tycoon has stopped working

Okay I have about had it with this game it happened again now I have to reinstall it again I am getting really mad at having to reinstall it every day I mean what the heck.the game does not even work now if I play it. the game crashes right when it loads up I am getting really peed off at this. I mean if I have to reinstall on limited internet I am going to go over my limit real soon if this keeps up. please reply soon.

When Game Dev Tycoon crashes because of a game error there is a small grey box that pops with with a message to contact us.
When the game says “stopped working” that points to a localized error which is probably not caused by the game.

There are a few things i can think of that will help diagnose this problem;

First off, We do not support adding saves from the offline version to the Steam version. This can cause some strange behaviour.
In case your save files have become corrupt i would suggest manually deleting all your save files. If you are not sure where your saves are located let me know which OS you are using and i will let you know the location.

Is your hard drive full? When the drive which has the OS installed is full some apps can behave strangely.

Did you edit your save files at all? manually or with an editor?

No I have never modded my saves or add any. and my laptop is a windows vista. and when it happens I make a new save game but it still does not work.

Bump

Hi,
In Steam, if you Right-Click (on your game in your library) > Properties > Local Files > Verify Local Cache Integrity, does it change something for you ?

Delete the saves any and do delete everything on your computer you do not need.

Heya,

Location of the containing folder:

On Windows 8 and Under:
Delete the file _file__0.localstorage contained in the Local Storage folder.

C:/Users/YOURUSER/Appdata/Local/Game Dev Tycoon/Local Storage/
where YOURUSER is your Windows user name.

To View the App Data folder please allow viewing of Hidden Files and Folder;
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows7/show-hidden-files

Is your hard drive full? Does your antivirus icon flash or give any messages?

sorry for the bump. My hard drive is not even close to being full. And my antivirus did not do any thing when the game crashed. And that local storage thing did not help it still crashed

Bump Again sorry I just want some help fixing my game

Hey,

Did you delete all the saves from the above location?
Is Game Dev Tycoon installed on the same hard drive/Partition as the OS? (The C Drive)

Please navigate to the C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Game Dev Tycoon folder (Your path will be different) and find the “GameDevTycoon.exe”

Right Click on the .exe
Select Properties
Compatibility Tab
Tick the “Run this program in compatibility mode” box
Choose “Vista” and/or a service pack.

The “stopped working” message is not a known issue with the game and points towards a localized issue. Please check your security software is not stopping the game from running and add exceptions where needed.

Thanks for the help it worked but there is one issue. The game sound lags a lot like the ding sound when you finish a game happens a little later after I have closed that thing. but the game might just stop working like like it did last time but that was when I reinstalled the game one time right after it happened the 1st time. and when I went to the compatibility tab windows vista did not show up so I chose windows xp.

Can you please let me know;

Your Processor make and model?
Your RAM?
Your Graphics card?
Your Graphics card VRAM?
Your Sound Card/Chip?
Is your Vista up to date with service packs?
