Searched around a bit, no specific topic on this that I could find.
So, i’ll make it.
How did everyone come along and find this game?
You can thank Total Biscuit for showing me this.

I read about it on reddit. Watched a youtube video and after 1 minute I knew i would love these kind of games and bought it.
WowCrendor played this game after the first episode I tried out the demo, loved it and 1 day later bought it.
Lovin’ it
I spotted in on the Win8 store, played it, bought it…
Then I looked to see if there was more to do with the game, found the website and saw they had just installed a new forum (I joined in the first week of the forums)… and the rest is history.
How is Windows 8 anyways?
I wasn’t too fond of making my laptop look like a tablet.
I read about it on TorrentFreak, found the demo and bought legit for the $8 when I hit the 5th year in-game in the demo. Worth every cent!
Saw j2’s lets play on youtube and i looks like a really funny game so i bought it to test it out.
I read about the anti-piracy measure via Rockmelt and thought it was brilliant. Checked out the game and now I’m mildly addicted.
I was reading some unrelated article on Penny Arcade, and spotted a headline in the sidebar that attracted my attention (“Empathy, cracked games, and piracy: How Game Dev Tycoon forced pirates to look in the mirror”).
I’m ever so glad the brilliant piracy publicity stunt thing happened, leading me to stumble across this game. It’s a type of simulation that I love to play, yet I find far too few quality games of this type out there.
(And I love discovering and supporting fine indie developers!)
I read about the antipiracy trick you did and laughed my head of.
I immediately tried the demo and had some difficulties untill I found the wiki. Then I played the full 5 years and I wanted more. Therefor I bought the game. There are probably copies out there in the illegal circuit that no longer has the antipiracy trick on them but I don’t care. I wanted the game, it was so cheap AND I actually wanted to support the developers. (I normally don’t pirate games… But I have to admit I pirate other stuff)
Anti piracy made me LOL so i tried the game and cant stop.
I use to play a mobile game called Game Dev. I tried to search for a desktop version and found this. So far from play it, I really love it
Saw Sips playing it on Youtube. Was gonna wait for the steam release but was just itching to have a go so bought it anyway. Proof that let’s players drive sales! Planning to play it on my channel too although I can’t hope to reach the amount of people Sips or TB would.
Still, nice to see I’m not the only one who makes purchasing decisions based on Youtube. I’m also eagerly awaiting the steam release of Papers Please for the same reason.
I had never heard of this game before the buzz piracy.
I found it while searching for another game like Game Dev Story.
One day I found Game Dev Tycoon, but the website said that the game was only for W8… Some weeks later (5 days ago) I went again in the website and it said that the game was available to W7 so i bought it.
same here but when i searched there was only the “lite” Version and i had to wait
I like win8 very much because its like win7 only better. Even without Classic shell you don’t have to use metro that much. But if you do you wont regret it. But if you have win7 you don’t really need it right now.
Found a thread about it on a forum called Facepunch.
/. (slashdot.org) did an article on the fact that they released it with a cracked version on torrents and since I really enjoy a lot of the tycoon type games I gave it a try… was not disappointed
I have TotalBiscuit to thank for finding this game.
At the very least the publishers should give him a bit of credit for the marketing he did (i’m assuming it was for free!)
