He gets paid via twitch and youtube ad revenue though, they shouldn’t have to thank him.
I found the game through The Verge about the anti-piracy thing, but didn’t really care about it. A month later, Sips from the Yogscast plays it, and I was convinced to try the demo. I did, and I bought it quickly after.

I found it while doing my monthly greenlighting on steam, needless to say it got my vote even before i’d played it xD Like many, i was a fan of Game Dev Story and to see a PC clone of if really got me excited.
A few days later I downloaded the pirate copy for a laugh (after seeing the news article), plus it got me a bit longer than the demo would. After playing for about an hour i bought the game and continued playing 
I read the article about how they duped the Pirate Bay crowd and knew I had to give them some money just for that. I am getting tired of the great single player PC games dying off because of piracy, so I felt obligated to show some support and like the game anyhow.
I watched Sips playing this on YouTube (creds to Sips). Without watching him playing this on YouTube I would never have found it I think. Then I read your page on pirating, downloded the demo and then bought the game within an hour.
I was scrolling through my subscriptions and I saw Xisuma was playing some of this. After watching the first four parts, I became excited as well as impatient for the arrival of the fifth. (Then I bought it!)
I found it on torrent websites, just after it came out! Im not much of a pirate, I just love scrolling through pirate webs. I was intrigued by the name, found it, got the demo and recentley bought it! Amazing, totally worth it!

not sure how many views/sales resulted from that site,
but there’s a phenomenon called “heise-DDOS”…think of a site being slashdotted… 
Through Twitch TV, one of my favourite streamers started play it (Crumps2) and since I’d never really got into a Tycoon or Indie game decided to buy it after seeing how awesome it looked.
I found the game through DMjared who reviewed it
