None of this modern stuff with guns and mines etc. There was a game, very much like this, which was actually in development for the original Xbox. Sadly, that game was cancelled and only one trailer saw the light of day.
Something like that would’ve been awesome. Being the chief of a tribe, bow and arrows, melee weapons and such. Having to survive and grow your tribe while at the same time avoiding being wiped out by the dinosaurs. Obviously, given that was planned for the Xbox, it would be updated.
I know a lot of people who have wanted a good dinosaur game for a long time. These days it’s almost always zombies, aliens or other humans. We do have games like Turok, but they don’t quite cut it.
A game I would love to see, that I think your team could develop with relative ease:
A SimTower like game. I really loved the original SimTower, and there haven’t been any Tower sims in the US since the early 90’s-- I don’t really see Maxis making a new one–ever.
OpenTower used to be a thing, but it’s been abandoned several times by many programmers. However, one or two individuals have been working to bring the project back to life, and you guys should check it out!
I would actually love to see something like Return to Zork as well.
Heavy Rain was kinda cheesy in the chase scenes, (Like a bad episode of CSI) but I loved it.
Terraria is currently a loved game in my collection, but only because I’m a fan of Dig Dug and Metroid, and it combines the two in a weird sense. I also loved Cave Story and I’m looking forward to Starbound.
@7thchimera if you liked Sim Tower and you have an iPhone or Android, then you might like Mega Mall Story by Kairosoft. Follows a very similar style but plays a bit differently. Definitely good for a couple of hours of fun.
A TV channel tycoon could be very interesting and fun.
There have been a few attempts along those lines, but not many it seems…and we’re still waiting for a real winner I think.
Mad TV, a German game, is the best-known effort. A bit quirky, cartoony and with the Story/Quests slider set oddly high…but still fun and certainly worth a spin in DOSBox. My biggest problem with Mad TV was that I felt I was having to fight against the real-time, move-your-character-around-the-building structure of the gameplay to try to do what I wanted to do. (In the simulation genre, it’s always an annoyance to me when a game makes it hard to plan–carefully and deliberately, in detail and at my own pace–and/or makes solid execution of the plan overly dependent on feats of dexterity, such as highly efficient and skilled avatar-piloting.)
In looking up this title just now I stumbled across http://tvtycoongames.com/, where descriptions and reviews of this game and others with this topic can be found.
That looks like quite the project; thanks for providing the link! It appears that they do plan on having a robust tycoon component to the game…but that it will be some time yet before they start implementing any of that. We’ll see.
The two titles with this topic that I’ve played were Impressions’ Detroit and an Austrian game called Motor City (aka Oldtimer). I never really got going with the former…it just didn’t grab me, and even though it’s supposed to be the simpler of the two I couldn’t grasp what was going on. Motor City, though…oh, I loved that game, cumbersome quirks and all.
And oh, could those early-'90s strategy and sim titles be cumbersome to play. I’m thinking here especially of another Impressions sim of the same era, Air Bucks…it’d be fantastic to see a modernization of that title that was a bit more sophisticated, and a lot less aggravating interface-wise.
Well 2 and 5 are also big favorites of mine.
I would also love too see some general “Industry Tycoon”, where you have a wide range of available areas to choose from. Something like Capitalism2 only on a more micromanaging-level or like Free Enterprise, which falls short on several aspects.
Hi,
as i read the first entry in this topic my first thought was about “Kaiser” and “Oil Imperium” from the old C64.
Kaiser: Kaiser
A game about become imperator in the darkage. You start with a small province and have to grow up over severall level. Important is build the economy and have enough to eat for your people, etc…
“The Bastard”, RPG (and later a 3D first person Action-RPG). You are the unacknowledged get of a brutal great lord of the realm, who had his way with your mother against her protestations. Starting as a child in the slums of the lord’s town, will you die a starving peasants death? Or will you rise up and replace your father as lord? Will you get there through brute force, cunning, wit or charm? Can you rally the people to rise up with you, or will you subjugate them and your father as well?
The later sequels have “moral choices”. This is always my signature game series. PC and later custom console, for mature audiences
Since playing MM7, I always wanted to have a mix between Might&Magic 7 and Heroes 3, meaning that you play in MM7 RPG mode, but you also have a stronghold in which you can build stuff, and train units to fight with other cities.
@PatrickKlug I like your list, pretty close to what i’d like to play.
Story-driven starship simulation would be great, but my references are more Mass Effect (awesome advanced cutscenes+dialogue trees+voice over ) and Corsair (awesome old game). Maybe in an universe like the Pen and Paper RPG Metal Adventure. Space pirates boarding yihaiiii!
Don’t like much the elder scrolls series (even if i played the only two last games, pretty, but boring), but everything that could match the level design of Fallout (the first) should be just great! (Nothing could match the story, ever). And form what i’ve seen the upcoming Shadowrun Returns will be that greatness! Cyberpunk baby!
I like my sim games like they are, so “next”.
Just a Heavy Rain on PC so i could try this appealing experience… And a zombie story like Telltale’s Walking Dead but with more choices (and replayability) could be good.
I’ve been searching a Dungeon Tycoon simulation game for a while! I’d like something between Dungeon Keeper and Dwarf Fortress. From what i’ve read/heard Dungeons and Impire “Could have been more”.
Also, i’d love a Steampunk City Builder! Small scale city with multi Z levels design possibilities, crossed walkway/railroad/conveyors belt everywhere! Optional: Underwater and above cloud worlds to choose, opa bioshock-style!
I was thinking of a godlike planet management, like Spore’s civilization phase mixed with sierra’s old city builders, with the problem to contain an expansionnist over-growing civilization on a limited sphere space.
~6. As i’m watching Samurai Champloo these days, i believe a Hip hop/samurai action/RPG would be cool, but it will maybe pass whith the time.
Ahhhh headache…
P.S.: If you spot some mistakes in this text, tell me, so i could improve my english.
I’ve been looking for a good TV Channel Tycoon game for a while. i would like to see something like SimTV.
here is the non-playable version but you can still do a little. http://web.archive.org/web/20030427163106/http://fandom.tv/simtv/
it shut down in like 2003 or something.
I prefer one past 2005-present since its not that confusing and that, and MUD TV comes straight to mind. Ratings sucked and the game was very bugged but was so fun.
Military Simulation Strategy game where you manage your own squadron of soldiers on stealth missions, raids, bomb defuse, and elimination missions to take out terrorists 3.TV Tycoon simulation games
Buisness Tycoon game where you pick what type of company you’re going to be like TV,Game,Telephone,Internet and you manage your own buisness from there.
