Mac v 1.3.6 - Potential fix for DOM exception crashes

I have uploaded the new version. Please download from your original download link. If you don’t have it anymore contact orders@fastspring.com

This should fix the crash bug but you might have to delete the Cache folder

~/Library/Application Support/Game Dev Tycoon/Cache

This version also uses a newer node-webkit version, so there might be other quirks that we’re not aware of.

Please let us know if it works or if it doesn’t work. If it doesn’t work tell us the error message.

Thank you for your quick updates on this. Unfortunately I am unable to find the cache folder in Application Support. Is their an alternative location it can be hidden in.
Also without clearing the cache the issue continues to prevent me from turning on the game.

I also can’t find my save game – any direction on that would be helpful

FYI
I have played the game to completion - have 500M+ in cash and a hardware lab + R&D center and I do have a save game but I don’t have the Application Support/Game Dev Tycoon folder. Any input on this would be appreciated

Crash still happens to me. Deleting Cache did not help. Crashes, no node-webkit viewer crash report this time, but same error messages in the console:

@uthsav - Find the Game Dev Tycoon folder in Application Support. In there, there should be a Cache folder, which you should delete. There is also a Local Storage folder, and inside, a file__0.localstorage, which is your savefile.

Just click on Go / Go to Folder in Finder and enter

 ~/Library/Application Support/Game Dev Tycoon

You should see the Cache folder.

sigh

can you send me your save file to support and mention that it still crashes on 1.3.6 - the ones I tested work now. also, could you try to delete the cookes and cookies-journal files as well.

When you click on Go in the top taskbar, click and hold the alt key and library should show up. From there you should see the Application Support folder, and then the Game Dev Tycoon folder.

I deleted everything and started from scratch, and then reloaded my saved game and it still crashed on 1.3.6. I’ll send you my save file as well.

Unfortunately the Game Dev Tycoon folder doesn’t exist within Application Support. I did browse to the Application Support folder – no luck there – even tried from within terminal
Is their an installer log somewhere that shows if the install failed completion (P.S I still played the game successfully)

Sending now. Also sent the entire folder, just in case.

Try this. Click Go, then Go to Folder, and then copy and paste this in the box (without the quotes “~/Library/Application Support/Game Dev Tycoon/” and press enter. See if it takes you to the folder.

could you guys try to remove the previous version completely and then to install it again and only copy the localstorage file in?

Still no go. The only files are the game container and the Game Dev folder in app support, right?

Nada. Here’s the steps I followed:

  1. Backup the file__0.localstorage
  2. Trash the folder from Application Support, and .app package
  3. Pop the .app package from the disk image into Applications and start
  4. Play through until past company creation, save
  5. Close game, reopen game, can access save file
  6. Close Game, Delete all contents of Application Support/Game Dev Tycoon except the LocalStorage folder itself, put file__0.localstorage there. It’s the only file.
  7. Open Game, cannot access previous savefile

thanks guys. we can reproduce the issue. since it seems to at least fix the savegames we tried previously I 'll leave the update up and we will investigate those cases closer.

Sounds good. I’m going to bed anyways (it’s 3 am here!), so I wouldn’t be playing much right now anyways. Thanks for working on it.

i always delete the cache folder, but still error

I’ve got the problem as well. Tried first deleting the cache, then the cookies and cookies-journal files, neither helped. Then I tried deleting the game with a application remover, only keeping the Local Storage folder, after doing this the crash still happens.
