I.e I get up to xbox 360 and am selling 2 million units of my game yet only making 3 million dollars.
So thats what? 1.5$ per copy of the game?
That can’t be right.
I just don’t understand why i’m still getting the draw backs of a cracked copy when I have the real game now.
Yes I realized I’ll be flamed for this topic, whatever.
I ended up buying the game, which I always do anyway If I actually like the game. I see no point in spending hundreds of dollars on games i’ll end up only playing a hour of (Which is 90% of the games I pirate anyway.)
Did you uninstall the cracked copy before you bought/installed the real copy? There are probably still left over files from the original install. Also, are you using a publisher in-game? They don’t give you as much money, usually only ~9% royalties.
I doubt that this is because of the pirated copy. Unless you see the exact message as shown in the screenshot of our blog post you are not affected by the piracy behavior.
If you use a publisher they take a really, really big cut. Usually you only get 8-13% of royalties so number of units sold and income is very different.
I knew I was getting the game the next day, and I knew of the Anti-Piracy message. So I pirated the game just to see the message. I uninstalled the pirated version of the game, and installed the legitimate version. When I saw my pirated save was still present, I uninstalled it again and installed it on my portable drive. It was still present. At the second office I never saw the original pop-up. So I don’t know if I even got any of the Pirating negative effects. But I still don’t want to even remember that save. So I’ll be restarting the game anyways. But I was checking the forums to see if I WOULD get negative effects due to me originally using the pirated version before installing the legitimate copy. Is there any other messages signalling a fake copy? Something so I know if my legitimate version is considered a pirate? Since my save is still there I figure anything else could be too. So I really want to know if my curiosity for you (If you don’t mind me saying ingenious) anti-piracy message has effected my real copy.
If you install the genuine copy you will not have any effects of the pirated version. You can even continue your save file from the pirated version. No problem.
Don’t pirates still appear occasionally?
I know for a fact that I have received a message (once) that there are people pirating my game and had two options. And I have full legal version of the game.
@sion_svagard that’s a different message. In the pirated version of the game, there’s not the two options, there’s just a frowny face and after you get the message there’s a large chance that any game you make will be massively pirated, drastically decreasing its sales numbers. The piracy event in the proper game has you pick between suing and warning a few people who are pirating your game, the choice between gaining some fans, or losing a few in exchange for money.
only message I got while installing the game was something like “if you like it buy it” which I did. the game cost 8.40 Canadian and worth every cent.
Edit: thank http://www.youtube.com/user/YogscastSips/videos?view=0 Sips from Yogcast for showing the game to me.
I just had to purchase the game after finding the blog post of an intended pirated version by the developer. That is ballsy and deserves my hard earned money :-). And in retrospect, after finishing the game within 24 hours of its purchase I am as happy as an Easter bunny, best €7 spent for leisure! And that, just as I thought that my gaming age was coming to an end, it’s just the bigger games that fail to captivate.
