I’ve already played 3 games, and lost 2 of them shortly after releasing very succesful game, and moving to a new office. Honestly, I’ve no idea what to do next, as my next games do not earn so much income o.O.
Usually i plan a strategy for every company. Sometimes a strategy requires to hire more devs in a company and developing a more sophisticated game than previous ones
My last playthrough in a stage right after moving from the garage looked like this:
- train CEO to be able to manage staff;
- hire an additional worker;
- train him to not afraid his new job with “Staff welcome training”
- release some small 10-reviewed games to earn enough money for a new engine and
for medium-sized games; - hire enough workers (just one more that time) to produce some good medium games with publisher’s help.
That company evolved into a huge one, released its own console and some MMOs for it but was never good enough to produce an AAA-game. Still the company reached the end and that means that it was a right decision to make these steps after moving to a new office
And don’t hire too expensive staff! They’ll bleed you dry.
Stick to staff level 1 or 2, until you have a few successful medium games to line your coffers.
There’s a quality penalty on Small-size games after you leave the garage, so it’s best to move on to Medium games as soon as possible. There’s also the issue that every time you make a very well-reviewed game (anything 8.75 or above?), it raises the bar for your next release. That’s another incentive to move on to slower, more difficult-to-produce games.
Once the option unlocks for marketing… use it cautiously. Don’t spend too much on marketing. The hype isn’t worth its pricetag early on.
As soon as I get out of the garage, I immediately do the staff training, then hire two staffers and have them doing staff welcome training simultaneously. Once they’re done with that, I do some contracts and research to give them time to get to full productivity. Once they’re at full productivity (alternatively, once my cash buffer has run dry), I immediately start producing Medium games for Publishers.
