WANTED: Community moderators

With the amount of questions and topics on this forum and the stuff that’s currently going on elsewhere we really need some help to keep things tidy and to moderate the forum.

If you want to volunteer a bit of your time to help make this place more effective and friendlier then please apply here.

Just tell a little about yourself and describe what you would do as a moderator. Also, what time zone you would be active.

And if you have prior experience as a moderator, tell us!

Thank you!

Patrick

Hello. My name Is Aaron Best, I am aged 16, From the UK and have been gaming for most my life. one of the first games I played and still one of my favorites is DOOM. I like gaming (and computing in general), having over 100 games on steam, and I have played most popular MMOs I am also experienced with computer use, with 2 A’s in GCSE ICT. Due to school times I will only be able to offer my assistance from 15.15 (GMT) on school days. although e from 24th May until September as I will be on study leave so will be online more (when taking breaks from revision).

As a moderator I would try censor the forums, stopping any inappropriate posts (especially from trolls). I will be as helpful as I can, and try to make the community a bigger and better place. I do not have prior experience as a moderator for forums (although do for small facebook pages). I feel this would be a good challenge and this forum would be a good place to start as it currently has a smaller community then some game forums.

Thank you for taking the time to read this application, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Hi!

I would like to become a moderator because I have experience in this field, I was moderator of the forum “Ets2MP” and on the simulator City Car Driving.

I have plenty of time to perform this function because I am a student.

I speak French (native language), English (fluent) and a little Russian (I’m learning Russian at school)

My time schedule is UTC +1 H00. I currently live temporarily in France but I am Canadian nationality and origin.

By becoming a moderator I would remove unnecessary topics, I would fight against spam, and I could help with the French Community of the game I also answer questions about the game anyway, I have a lot of experience there, you can trust me!

If you want more information do not hesitate to send me an email: deliocom@gmail.com

Thank you if you accept me!

Hello, I’m from the U.S. East Cost and would be willing to do some volunteer moderation for your forum.

Currently a CompSci Major in college and I like to spend time watching and moderating speed run streams as I study and program. (to break up the monotony) I can be active most weekdays from 12 to 8 p.m. EST.

I am currently a Twitch.TV stream moderator for SpeedRunsLive and would like to take a crack at Forum moderation.

I’d like to help out!

My name is Anna, I’m 21 years old and live in the USA. I have moderating experience on many web forums, along with using many web applications.

I am currently unemployed, so you know I’d be on here a lot. If I become a moderator here I’d be mature, calm-headed, and friendly. I won’t be biased and be a jerk. I know I made one comment out of frustration, but that won’t happen again.

As far as web applications I’ve used discuz, phpBB3, MyBB, SMF, vBulletin, XenForo, WordPress, Joomla, and too many to list.

I live in the CST time zone.

Howdy!

I’m a 21-year old student (and software developer) living in Canada. I used to moderate forums a lot earlier on, usually on phpBB or IP.Board (although I love Discourse @codinghorror ). I live in PST, so GMT -8, and will be on from 6PM until probably 2-3AM (I don’t sleep) most days due to school or work.

As a moderator, I’d remove any posts deemed against the rules, but also ensure that any new topics are put in the appropriate categories (and work to create new ones to ensure the simplest way to get messages across, for example creating new categories for bugs specific to one platform). If it’s possible to merge topics (I haven’t seen evidence of it, but I could be wrong) I’d want to merge as well, to keep all relevant discussion together in one. Overall, I’d keep the place clean and tidy.

Overall, I want to see this community prosper, both because the game is awesome, but also because the software being used is the best I’ve seen so far, and this is a great example of it in use in the real world.

Cheers,
Vlad Zaharia

PS: Shouldn’t this be in the meta category? Or maybe a new announcements category?

Hey Patrick,

My name is Nicholas Hidalgo, I’m currently a Computer Science major attending college in upstate New York. I’m an avid web enthusiast who has very extensive experience moderating online communities. Most of that experience stems off the popular vBulletin, and I.P Board platforms, however I have extended into Xenforo to support the indie guys (Just as yourself!). All of the communities I have helped managed have in fact been gaming forums.
Personally, I’m a major music fanatic, concerts tend to take up any and all free time whenever I get a chance to attend them. In fact, I myself am a self taught drummer, and a 6 year trained Clarinet player.

I’ve grown absolutely fond of your game and it would be my absolute pleasure to assist you guys on your forums. I admire the way you handled the piracy issue, and as an aspiring indie game developer myself I considerably look up to Greenheart Games. As a moderator I hope to bring a professional personality to the forums. You can be assured that every and all decisions made as a Community moderator would be based off of the well-being and to maintain the integrity of the forums. Additionally, you can expect speedy assistance to the community.

I am located in New York State, Eastern Time Zone.

Thanks for reading,
Nick

Hello,

My name is Kevin and I am 25 years old. I am an IT specialist who plays many games in my free time. I do have moderator experience on a smaller forum (only about 500 or so active users).

I am in the Central time zone. I work 7:30AM - 4:00PM, so I will be most active after 4, but since I am at a desk all day I am able to browse throughout the day.

I have made @mynameisvlad a moderator. Welcome aboard.

Welcome new moderators!

My name is Dan. I’m a fellow C# dev / DBA in the UK. I can also turn my hand to web design / development in PHP etc.

I have moderated many forums and chat servers in the past, the larger being a 1000 user private legend of MIR server community.

I game in my spare time on PS3, xBox and PC. My favourite games are BF3, WoW and CoD.

I work full time but since my job involves sitting on a computer all day I can spend a fair bit of time online, providing it doesn’t get in the way of the day job.

I’m also a minority in the way I actually purchased your game lol.

Mod Edit: Forgot to mention that I’m 24…

Hey guys,

My name is Mol, I’m 23 years old and would like to volunteer my time as a moderator. I’m based in Australia (GMT+8) and would be available on and off throughout the workday as well as during the evenings from 5-10pm. I’ve been a part of other forum communities for many years. I am skilled in the use of markup tags and have working knowledge of html.

I currently moderate on the gaming website neoseeker and this has provided me with the skills to deal with trolls, flaming, spam, building a community and a sense of what is/isn’t acceptable. I’ve worked with co-moderators on numerous occasions and have very much enjoyed the experience of working with others to build up a forum for people to enjoy. As a moderator on this forum I would focus on ensuring that the forum rules are kept up to date and are followed, helping to establish new members and the organisation of posts into their respective categories (as well as further category definition).

On top of this, I really love the game thus far and the opportunity to give something back would be wonderful.

Thanks,
Mol

I have moderated plenty of forums already such as wcreplays, inwarcraft, readmore and gamesports. (I have proof if need be). Most communities I moderated had around 100k+ users and or 20k unique pagehits, 2k posts daily.

I am 27 years male, thus mature. Feel free to message me, I speak and wright fluently in: Swedish. English, German and Mandarin. (understand a little bit of French and Italian but nowhere near fluent) also I own the grand Latinum but I doubt that matters

Yet another fan from the UK, I tend to frequent these forums between 10am and 3am GMT. I am technically a member of staff at www.weplayciv.com (My handle is MMC), although I haven’t posted there in a while; and I have also run, and helped to run, several specialist message boards in the past (most are defunct now, due to Real Life catching up with people).

I’m involved with game testing for a major developer (although a NDA means I can’t say more), and I’ve been active on these forums since week 1. I’m 25, and only speak English, but speak and write it well.

As a moderator, I see myself assisting in technical support rather than closing threads and banning people.

PS. @rosebud, Your English is fluent (am I right in assuming your native tongue is Swedish?), but the word you want is spelled ‘write’ not ‘wright’. A wright is a craftsman (wheelwright, shipwright, etc).

Hey guys,

I’m David. I recently turned 21 and am from the UK. I’m usually available any times between 10 am through to 5 am, depending on my sleep schedule at the time. I have moderated various gaming communities before, as well as leading clans with membership in the thousands on MMORPG’s.

I suffer from Asperger’s Syndrome, though I prefer to see it as a strength rather than a weakness. It gives me an amazing eye for detail and structure and helps drive me to attain my goals.

As a moderator I see myself being able to help with any queries about the game in terms of content, strategy, advice etc. as well as some technical help. General modding of the community goes without saying, ensuring things are kept to healthy discussion rather than any bad language. Removing any unwanted posts, helping people etc. The ‘usual’ things.

To top it off, I also already have a great knowledge of the game and a good understanding of the game-play and strategy side of things.

Thanks for reading,

David.
