i wonder if it would be possible to add a update/upgrade function for games you’ve made.
i’d imagine this as being able to select update instead of sequel and be able to select a game you’ve made and be able to update it to a new engine or be able to add new features to the game (not removing old one’s possibly updating to a better version of the feature) just like creating a game and having the game re-evaluated at the and and generating some (not as much as a new release of course) new sales.
this would of course still be able to fail to prevent exploiting but might be nice if you’ve made a game that you’d really like to give another chance to succeed or be better.
in reality it won’t add much but i always imagine the type of game i’m making in game dev tycoon so the features are not just ways of gaining extra design or tech but might be features necessary to making the… idea of the game match what i’ve got in my mind.
What you’ve basically described is the sequel mechanic with a different name. Since most studios either make a sequel or remake the original from the ground up, there isn’t much need for a separate mechanic which duplicates the existing process.
Your best option would be to make a sequel which has the same game and settings, but with a better engine.
yes in essence, this would however be a cheaper process to add features to a game and if pulled off correctly could be a way of saving your company if your about to go bust.
a sequel is a full new game with full new game price.
i doubt the witcher 2 patch 2.0 cost even a fraction of what it cost to build the witcher 2
not to mention what cd project pulled with the witcher 2… twice and it did allow them to sell more copy’s of the game then they would have had they not done that.
I just looked at The Witcher 2 Patch 2.0, and all the additions are small things, its not whole new attack system or anything implemented, its small things like “Parrying is now gone” or “Attacks don’t stop” for example.
