I purchased a Surface that will be here in 1 week, and I was looking up games fully compatible with touch. Of all the lists that I saw, this game was on it, but it said exclusive with the Windows Store as steam one doesn’t support full touch. Does this still hold true? Do I need to repurchase the game? I originally bought it from the website, and they sent me a key when it came out on steam, so its the only copy I now have.
Surface 3 came in early, and the answer is an absolute no on touch controls.
Hey, Yes, tablets take some working out as far as games are concerned.
The Surface 2 has an ARM processor and runs Windows 8.1 RT. In other words, it’s not capable of running regular PC applications because it uses the same kind of hardware you find in Android tablets etc. The Surface 2 only runs apps from the Windows Store.
You can purchase Game Dev Tycoon from the Windows 8 store for the Surface 2 which is an edition designed especially for the ARM processor with touch capabilities.
The tablet that can run Windows applications like a PC is the Surface Pro 2 which has an Intel i5 processor which is the same as you would find in regular notebook PCs and it runs regular Windows 8.1. It is basically a really fancy notebook with a touchscreen. The Surface Pro 2 can run standard editions of Game Dev Tycoon with touch support however a keyboard and mouse may be needed to enter the company name.
This is the first time I have been asked about a Surface 3 so I did a little research. It seems that MS have dumped the ARM processor in favor of going all out Intel:
As the surface 3 is now using a full Windows 8 It should retain some touch capability with peripherals needed to enter the company name. (When using the Steam or Windows Store editions).
I thought GDT was off of the windows store for some reason?
The ARM edition (Surface 2) is not currently available and will not be until the Windows Store fix the issues they are experiencing.
Anyone who owns the game on a Surface 2 should not uninstall the game.
Just throwing this out there for future reference, no matter what I try the Steam, and direct download from GreenHeart Games does NOT support touch. I ended up using Bing rewards to get it from the Windows Store, and that is the only version that works with touch.
And yes, MS ditched windows RT completely.
Thank you for letting me know.
