Tons of Ideas from the Brain of Yours Truly (and Others)

Hey there everyone, I was going to express these Ideas on the Steam Forums, but I see a lot more of the people who worked on Game Dev Tycoon Active Here. So, here are my ideas for “Game Dev Tycoon.” Reply on what you think, please! I put a lot of thought into these.

  1. Better Reviews

The reviews are good, but [7] “Good Game.” and [4] “Meh.” seem really short. I was hoping for things like [8] “A real Roleplaying Experience.” or if you have the Steering Wheel in your game with the Racing topic, [7] “Actually felt like I was driving!” or if it has multiplayer, [2] “Multiplayer killed this game.” or if it is a sequel, [4] “The original was better.” or [9] “Way better than it’s predecessor! Loved it!” It may be some coding, but it would be a great addition. (What I’m trying to say is, it will restate the feature and tell you if it was good or bad.)

  1. DLC/Expansion Packs

I know you can do this already for MMO’s, but I was thinking it would be cool for normal games. For example, I made a copy of the Sims (Life Simulator) and at one point I looked around and was disappointed that there was no option to make expansion packs. (Because we all know about the Sims and its expansions.)

  1. More Money

So, right now if you get 1,000K it goes to 1M. But if you play the game to the point where you get so much money you don’t know what to do with it all, it never changes from millions so you get things like 999,999,999M. I was thinking that going to Billions (1B) and Trillions (1T) would be a nice feature.

  1. Set Game Price

A cool addition to the game would be the option to set how much you want your game to sell for. If you think the game is going to be a hit, make it expensive. You think it’s going to flop, make it cheaper. Or you could choose an option to use “Recommended” Settings.

  1. Longer Titles

We can all agree we want to name sequels and stuff “That Game with Action 2: More Action” but are unable to do so because there is a Character Limit.

  1. Game Porting/Multi-Console

It’s unfortunate when you have a good, popular, game out there and the console it’s on is no longer supported, so I think it would be a nice addition to the game if you could move the game over to another console for a small (or large) fee.

Another idea would be to choose multiple consoles when making a game for the title to release for.

  1. Better Sequels/Series

An idea would be that when you create a sequel it would open a window to “Name Your New Video Game Series.” Then when you create a 3rd Game you could choose to add it to the series you created instead of choosing to make it a sequel to the 2nd game.

I also think sequels should be unlocked very early because there was Sequels since text-based games.

  1. Consoles Ideas

I was surprised when the game ended at the GS (DS), but the Wuu (Wii U) came out. What about the GSI (DSI)? Or 3GS (3DS)? And what happened to Atari in between PC and G64 (C64) and the TES (NES)? And who could forget about the PPS Vita (PSP Vita)? I think the game should be updated regularly with new consoles when the actual consoles come out real time.

(Credit to thegamingchanne for this)
Also when creating custom consoles, you should be able to edit every aspect of your consoles. (Ex: Controller, Color, Console Itself, if it is wired or not)
Come on Greenheart Games, the possibilities with this great game of yours!

  1. Other Ideas

My final ideas are mostly topics and genres.
But first I think that the topic “Spy” should be something like “Stealth” (For games like Assassin’s Creed and Metal Gear Solid)

And to add to the topics list:
Sandbox (Like Minecraft or Garry’s Mod)
Gardening (Garden Simulator = Farmville, Garden Tower Defense = Plants vs. Zombies)

And for Genres:
Tower Defense
Party Game (Like Mario Party)
Shooter
Trivia
Puzzle

That’s all I have to say.

So those are all the ideas I have for this game, I hope you enjoyed reading though this and devs, great game you have. Even without these ideas the game is great.

Regards,
Natolikin

Nice, I have some of my own ideas for this game, including Alternate History, where if turned on in settings, different events and consoles can happen causing different things to happen to successful consoles.

E.g.

Ninvento’s new console, the Super TES has not done quite so well with the market it has aimed for. With the recent release of another console, the [Insert Console Name Here]. Ninvento has concluded that they will be launching another console to try and woo the audience back again.

Another idea of mine is a better Custom Console Creations. So you can design every aspect of your console, like the controller, the console itself and if the console is wired or not (research required).

If you have a look at the changelog for 1.4.0 (Which will be released in a couple of days), you will see that many of these are actually being incorporated already

Many adding subtitles? Like you type in “That Game with Action 2” in the title and “More Action” in the Subtitle?

Multi-Console is added in 1.4.0 which is getting out on 29th of August, Thurday. Same with longer titles. For the rest, awesome ideas!

Setting the game price (within reason) and DLC is a must have. I’ve wanted this for so long.

Edited original post. Added some more ideas (after playing the game some more) and added thegamingchanne’s idea for custom consoles to original post.

I’m not going to echo what everyone else has said in this thread, but a lot of your ideas I like!

Gaming Porting, DLC/Expansion parks, and the Genres are the ones that gave me the biggest boner. Love those ideas.

However, I am very skeptical about about Better Reviews. I mean, you would have to have a very good AI for that or a lot of the progamming and matching would be insane beyond relief. The racing topic, yeah that’s pretty straight forward. But some features you add into this game and say like “Multiplayer killed this game” how is the AI going to know that with a certain topic? It’s very odd in a sense but I see what your saying.

@Pruff60 I was never the best at describing things. I really just meant I wanted the reviews to tell you WHAT you did bad or WHAT you did right. Like, if you add multiplayer, but that is what made the game bad, reviews would say.

I know what you meant bro. That’s what I’m saying. It’s very hard to judge what you did right or wrong by features. But with the sliders, its more of a think that you look up on the wiki. Even tho it’s a game based on arithmetic, its not all just number crunching and such. But by features, adding features is usually a good thing (besides DRM, LOL). Having the problem with the game by adding Multiplayer, for example, is just very broad. But maybe if your company didn’t focus on the multiplayer as much as they should, but yes. Again, its broad and very complicated, I’m not a game designer, but I took some classes with programming to know that it’s extremely difficult and stressful to program such a thing. But I understood you, it’s not a bad idea, it’s just very broad. That’s all.

It would be cool if they got rid of the grDevices and instead replaced it with grOS and added Android, Mac, and Linux

Great ideas

Being able to create your own peripherals would make me a happy man.
