I’ve just started playing, so I’ve yet to experience a lot of what the game has to offer (seems good so far!), but one thing I feel detracts from the experience is the slow printing of text in dialog boxes. I only read at an average speed but the text appears on screen slower than the pace at which I read, meaning for every single dialog box, I have to click to speed it up, which gets annoying. Really, it would be nice if the dialog boxes just displayed all the available text immediately. I don’t think animating the text onto the screen adds anything, and it doesn’t even simulate “typing” particularly well, given that it’s not a monospace font and it doesn’t type the letters individually, as opposed to the wipe/reveal effect that is currently in place.
Just as a side note, many of the dialog boxes in general are probably unnecessary; they certainly are disruptive to gameplay flow. If you used some sort of toaster-style notification system, then you could stack up notifications to the side and allow the player to interact with them when they’re ready, rather than by force.
why don’t you click? it kinda skips it.
As Wavejones said, clicking will speed things up and i agree that the dialogue is a bit forced upon us.
Great example of annoying dialog spam is the Playsystem announcement.
damn you playsystem announcement and playsystem 4 announcement for taking so long.
I do click it. Every damn time. So annoying, just show me the text, or put the information into a non-modal popup notification off to the side!
This.
We appreciate the feedback guys!
As a personal side note I like to play game Dev Tycoon with my Trust Pen tablet. I find clicking text and pop ups are much less annoying.
I think my main point is that animating the text onto the screen adds nothing to the experience and requires constant clicks to reduce the unnecessary reading delay. May as well just remove it or at the very least add an option to either speed it up or remove the delay altogether.
You just like poking stuff Charlie
Oh Charlie. I bet everytime you try to skip a pop-up you poke the screen and say, “Hey”.
I notice the game clock pauses for many of the dialogs, how would you see this working with notifications? How important is it that the clock be paused?
Maybe
