Suggestion for an in-game event

Event: Periphery Demographic

Requirements to Fire:
Has produced at least one 8.0 or higher rated Young audience game that has was released at least 2 years ago.
Has researched Sequels.

Event Text:
You’ve been made aware to the existence of a large group of adult players who are dedicated fans of [Young Audience Game]. So dedicated they produce fan stories and artwork of the characters and settings. Most of this is pretty cool, though there is a little that is…unsettling.

They have flooded our mailroom with requests to make a darker and edgier sequel to [Game]. How should we respond?

Options:

A: Decline their requests politely.
Effect: "The fans are dissapointed but they soon return to their normal activities. "
Small loss of fans. Event Ends

B: Decline their requests and shame them for their twisting of your child-friendly game.
Effect:

Chance of: "The fandom is larger than you realized. In response to your insults they are calling for a boycott of your games. This boycott is spilling over into your normal fan base, who seem to be sympathetic to the periphery demographic. "
Large Loss of Fans.

Chance of: "Hi, I’m Melissa Meyers from ‘Mom’s for Safe Gaming’. I was just as horrified as you where when I saw the kind of things some people post online about [Game]. I’m so glad you went on record and put these perverts in their place! We are so grateful to be customers of a child-friendly company. We gleefully look forward to purchasing your next child-friendly game and will recommend your games to our members."
Moderate gain of Fans

C: Promise the fans you will deliver what they ask for.

The player has 1 full year to produce a sequel to the mentioned game. The sequel must be an Everyone or Mature rated game to count.

If the player fails to make the requested game: “The fandom is upset about the company breaking their promise. They were all getting their hopes up”

Moderate Loss of fans.

If the player makes the requested game on time, one of two things can happen.

Chance for.
"Hello, I’m Peter Smith, one of the webmasters of [Game] Weekly, a fan website for your game. On behalf of the entire fandom, I just want to say how AWESOME [Company] is for producing [New Game]. I’ve already got 4 copies pre-ordered and I’m headed for the midnight release! Thank you for listening to the community. You guys are the best!

Moderate increase in fans. Large if you made a mature rated game.
10% bonus to sales for the newly released game.

Chance for:
“Melissa Meyers from ‘Mom’s for Safe Gaming’ here. Has your company lost their minds? I went to pick up the new sequel to [Original game] for my 5 year old and what do I see when he starts playing it? Completely and totally inappropriate for children! And don’t tell me to read the rating, [Old Game] was a child friendly game, so [New game] should have been too! While I look up to see if you broke any indecency laws, you’ll be sure never to get another sale from our organization again!”

Moderate decrease in fans, Large if you made a mature rated game.
10% penalty to sales for the newly released game.

Great Idea :green_heart:

I think it’s pretty obvious that this is referencing MLP.

It is.

The Brony community’s main fan site is called “Equestria Daily” which is where I got the fan site name “[game name] weekly” from.

I didnt actually read the whole thing, just like 2 sentences and I already knew what it was referencing.

This is something that has happened to several gaming houses. All the cases I can think of that went overboard with their ‘more mature’ title (straight from Y to M) were subject to terrible sales. Sequels that are only a little more mature (Y to E) have pretty good odds. (Perhaps because ‘safe gaming’ advocates can’t get much traction with the smaller shift.) The probabilities in the event should reflect that.

"Bunny Adventure 2

Play as Bunny Boi, a poor, hard-working anthropomorphic animal-man who is working to make ends meet since the end of ‘Bunny Adventure.’ He owns a bar in the bad part of town and has to pay for his child’s school through a series of selling drugs! His wife divorces him when she finds out he’s dealing and ends up as a prostitute working in the alley! He eventually gets found out by his friend, Ronnie Rhino, who became a police officer and was proud of Boi’s life choices until that moment! You have to decide between your friendship and your child getting a good education!

After that enjoyment, you can meet all the gangs and do missions for them, like burning down a competing business to drive up sales, killing a man and making it look like suicide, and more!

Hilarious hijinks ensue!"

EDIT: Actually, I’d probably play Bunny Adventure 2, it sounds like there’s some good writing in there, memorable characters and the like. Not to mention a great story if handled correctly.

And having the main character of a gritty, artistic game be called “Bunny” is just too funny to pass up.
