Suggestion: Engine Update

Instead of creating new engines in order to benefit from new features, or upgrade existing ones, I’d suggest a feature for updating existing engines.

To balance this feature, updating core stuff (exclusive, 1-choice stuff like graphics, and sound for example) should cost you 50% extra, new features (Better Dialogue) should cost 25% extra, and supportive features (adding joystick support for example) shouldn’t cost anything extra.

What I’m saying is, lets say you have an engine that cost you 500k to build. And then you researched new graphics, which costs 100k. When you want to update your engine, you will only pay 150k to add it in.

Something like this.

I was thinking the same few days back, and this would be a great option to have in the game. It annoys me how I have to create new game engines every time I gain a number of new researches, and at the end I have a huge list of different engines and I just have to remember which one has the things I need, since there is no real reason of getting all the old stuff to the newer engines and so…

Would be great if we could just update the old engines with new features!

totally agree engines are very delicate an can bankrupt you without mercy to be able to update them instead of makeing a expensive new one is a great idea

Actually I think they are pretty well balanced early on in the game, however as you progress its way too easy. I find myself building new engines just for the research points…

Yeah I have 10,000 research points and made a new Engine with every single graphical upgrade I got, I have 14 or 15 engines total. They seem fine to me, planning when to make them and what features to add is a process key to the game. When spending time making an engine, you’re not doing games and so it can be extremely costly if timed wrong.

So you say that we should not be able to update our engines?
Thats like saying we should not be allowed updates or patches to our games.

We should be able to add some smaller details to our engines, and give it a version number. But if we want a new graphic engine, we need to start from scratch.

Please read the OP, he specifically lists graphics as his example. I think you should be able to add things like peripheral support etc. sure. I don’t think you should be able to do large updates though, such as adding entirely new graphics versions.

yeah…well i just made my last engine “Ultimate Engine” with all upgrades even 2D graphics xD.

got achievement spend more then 1 M on Engine.

You’ve still a little way to go yet

I think my last engine, which I believe is the most advanced possible, was 2,500 points to make it.

I like this idea. updating wouldn’t take as long as building new so you have more time for making games or what ever else you would rather do.
