Success Stories - MMOs?

Good day,

for some reason I found MMO’s to be amazing when it comes to milking the players.

Develop your own console, release a perfect MMO and then release as many AddOns as possible.
(AAA or LageProjects).

Due to the GamesCon and your own Company’ Event the sales will be stable most of the time.
Here is what I made with a single MMO before I decided to stop the game as it became boring:

What are your success stories?

I made a few MMO’s that sold really well but I kept closing them at the first sign of a inbalance in profit, until I got the idea to keep them going and just release expansions to keep people playing over time.

As an experiment I made one called Dragon Wars, which reviewed at 9.75 in Y86 M3 W4 and has sold 575,323,985,526.4M copies, and has made 4,876,966,575,326.9M in profit. I have made about 5 expansions for it so far and it just keeps making money. MMO’s really need to be toned down in this. But it is pretty cool seeing it still selling in Y119.

Not sure how to take a screenshot in-game.

I think MMO’s are WAAAAYYY to overpowered, that’s why i don’t make any.

The problem I had, was that if I only released expansion packs, the ratings were less, because it was too much of the same  So had to weave in another game, but that took mostly a lot of time, so it was a bit tougher to get the profit ;p

MMO Expansions get penalised if the follow up to early to another and/or the Main Game.
If you ‘just’ wait for a year or a bit more before releasing the next Expansion this problem does not occur.
You can wait a while with the finished game ready to release and give your staff more time to improve. The only bad thing with this is the hype lowering fast after some time without new infos has passed.
So in theory you could develop an expansion ready to release and every few month issue a new demo via Marketing to keep the hype from falling. As long as there is improvement in the game itself (Design and Tech Points building up) the hype won’t fall.

I haven’t unlocked MMOs yet. When do I get them?

In the third office (if you count the garage as first) via the R&D compartment which is available as a new room after at least one Tech Specialist is present on your staff.
It does cost some money to built (2,5 Million if my memory serves me correctly) and the advances of R&D rely on a monthly budget of up to 3 Million.
So don’t even try until you have been bolstered by at least 90 Million credits.

It seems that everytime you make an expansion it somehow multiplies your sales as well as maintenance cost. I made one mmo with like 10 or so expansion (1 after another, no time in between but AAA so it took a while to make each one. In the end the profit was like 30 billion per second and like 10 billion maintenance. Got bored so I cancelled the MMO to make normal games. Imo the whole system is shitty. they should have made the MMOs like they are in real live. Maybe sell 5 million copies and get a profit from that and then you get monthly subscription fees. If subscriptions drop you could make another expansion to gain more back etc and also there must be a limit. there can’t be a trillion players, code some logic in there. Also it must scale with your console. If I develop a console and make a game for it the console should sell more than the game. the way it’s now you can have 5 million consoles sold but 10 trillion of a same game for it.

How do I make these expansions? I’ve got 100mil +, and a couple of tech specialists and a couple of design specialists… now what?

Wait for the popup that tells you that you can found an R&D compartment.
Expansions are researchable there after you have researched MMO’s in R&D and in the staff research.
MMO’s are researchable after you have researched Internet in R&D.

I must have missed the R&D popup then. How can I get it back?

You popably have not missed it. It works the same way you move from the garage to the first office, install new pc’s and move to the second office.
Even if you click “Not Now.” the message returns after some while.

There is some fan requirement though. But I don’t know it just because I already have the needed fans when moving to the second office already.
Heard something about 775k fans or something like that …

Further informations and/or questions about the R&D Lab should go here

MMO’s are so OP. You just create an expansion every few months, and spam conventions.

I think some people may of made two accounts: Dungeons and Dragons players have surpassed world population of an estimated 7.099 billion.
