Hey, I know you’re fully aware of this, but Steam is waiting to eat this up.
I would happily buy your game, possibly for both my accounts, and recommend it to others, simply on the basis of your clever little anti-piracy tactic. Beautifully played. It’s how I found you, because I heard nothing about you before Gizmodo covered it.
However, because I am too lazy to pirate, keep track of my games, back things up, maintain multiple accounts and all the other BS reasons I don’t buy games off of the platform, I don’t think I’d be able to invest in the product outside of my venue, being Steam. Steam lets me have all of my toys in one place, on one convenient account, and I never lose them, their license, or my title to them. And it’s damned hard to pirate that kind of protection.
So, in case you needed to know why, that’s what’s keeping my money out of your accounts. Keep on keeping on.
The neat little anti-piracy tactic led me to mistakenly acquire Game Dev Story by Kairosoft. Whoops.
The announcement that Game Dev Tycoon was greenlighted on Steam is what corrected my blunder and led me to acquire this game here. I waffled on it for a while, wanting to wait to acquire it when it came onto Steam, but I finally got impatient and bought it immediately.
Since the Steam version is expected to get a gameplay patch that changes a few things, there’s justification for both waiting and being hyped. The goal of the gameplay patch, as I understand it, will be to reduce the “playing with a wiki open” factor on the game.
That’s excellent information, I think I will have to give that more consideration.
Sucks about the accidental buy; did the first game pass muster?
Game Dev Story is pretty similar to Game Dev Tycoon, but it’s more random. It also has more problem with runaway success. Once you’re making good games in Game Dev Story, you’ll make a hall-of-famer every time.
Almost every time.
Y’see, Kairosoft decided that game dev companies never back up their data or buy surge protectors, and random blackouts or equipment failures will occasionally sabotage your games. It’s like choking down an elixir of frustration every time it happens. There’s nothing you can do about them.
Ah man, I know how that goes. It’s always less fun when someone has shallow accomodation of events.
