Start of a Tycoon Game

I want to make a Tycoon Game (no GameDev)
What Engine you recommend me?
The Idea that i have only needs 2D Interface no 3D Game.

Unity 3D is pretty good for 2D games, or GameMaker Studio, but both are paid
I recommend making it in java using eclipse, it will need from you some time to learn basics, but eclipse will be very helpful and it will give you more freedom than pre-made engine.

That depends…
Do you want to make it the “code way”, do you know any language, or
"The easy way", use some program for building games?
For the program I would recommend GameMaker or Construct 2.

You should learn this, as it’s very simple to add GUI elements, unlike Unity where its impossible. (It feels like) its also free and open-source!

How would I set that engine up? Says I need an application to launch that link. I am using linux mint 32bit on my laptop. (With the mate desktop, it seems to run much faster than ubuntu 14.04. Also, the 64bit version makes my 2gb ram laptop cry)

How would I make it work?

If you dont have any experience with binaries, I’ll give you a quick step-by-step here. Normally, you should be able to double click it. You might have to give it executable permissions though. Here are the “has to work” step-by-step: (but not usually required)

  1. Download the .32 file (or .64, its pretty self explanatory)
  2. Place the file in your home directory
  3. Go into a terminal, and if it says ~ in front of your username, proceed. If not, do cd /home/user
  4. Write chmod +x application-name.32
  5. And then, ./application-name

If I’m not mistaken, you can also right click the file to give it executable permissions. This security migth seem uneccessary, but it provides a bit of security!

Ok, so I just have to make it executable via commandline. I do know how to do that. I just thought it meant I needed to download something else.

Anyway, thank you!

No problem  Weren’t you a Windows user before?

Nope. Have used windows a few times, and have ran a winxp virtual machine to use UME, but I do not own any windows pcs currently.

Nice! Add me on Steam if you have: stianthedark
