As I was playing Gamedev Tycoon, I realized you cannot do multiple things actual developers/publishers can do realistically. I came up with these ideas.
What about first and second-party developers? Let’s say you happen to have a console, or you have 500M in your bank, you can acquire developers for a set price (say, 10M for second-party, 25M for first-party) and you can allow them to make multiple games. With this, comes with the price that you must pay double of your monthly debt (or, say, 100,000 X 1.5), but you’ll get more money and see more high-quality games. Plus, you can force the developers to make a game based off a game your company made. There can also be a risk that another company can purchase that company for double you paid for.
Another one is deals with developers. For example, say the company Mousetech asked you if they can develop a game for you to publish, and it’ll work similarly to the publishing system, where penalties happen. I thought of this mainlystrong text how you can develop for publishers, but not you being the publishers.
I also thought of starting bonuses. What I mean by that is, you started off as, say, an arcade game maker, but you eventually made games for consoles. Or you were a toy maker and became a developer. And, if you were a toy maker, you’ll get more points for innovation - design points. And if you were an arcade maker first, you’ll get more technology points. Same goes if you were once a hardware creator. This also allows you to create consoles earlier. If you start off as a developer, you’ll get average points. May make the game unbalanced, but ehh… There could also be location choice, like being in Japan (Mbox systems die out easier, but consoles like the Wonderswan and PC Engine, and Japan-only names, such as the Ninventocom and Vena Mark 3), Americas (Normal), and Europe (PCs flourish, but there are stuff like Amigas).
More stuff I came up with - more consoles. What I mean, is, have the ability to make arcade games, or making games for Atari systems or Vena Jupiters (y’know, Sega Saturns). Or, the 3GS, PSMita, Jaguar, Gizmondo, Turbografx16, and much more. Arcade machines could be special for you getting less profit but having the allowance to be used twice as long as a normal console game is.
Final thing - Add-ons. What I obviously mean is, not only you could develop for add-ons to systems (Ninventocom Flopdisk Sys [JPN only], Vena CD, Kinect) but also make addons to your systems (say, motion control addons or 3D addons) to increase sales (or make your console more hated). It’s a game of luck.
That’s all I have to say.
