Some basic ideas

Some pretty basic ideas, that could be relatively easy to implement, but could expand the game quite a bit:

  • Multi topic games (like Space / Sci-Fi, or Horror / Detective)
  • Multi platform releases (in real life some games are released on all gaming platforms). Costs much more money, so more risk/reward
  • Larger staff than max 7
  • Doing multiple games/projects at once
  • More staff means taking more risk, as you have to pay them, makes management more complex than it already is, while allowing for becoming even bigger
  • Perhaps gaining skill levels at genre’s, just like gaining skill levels at 3d/2d renderers now. Companies in reality can specialize on certain game types (like id Software with 3d shooters, or blizzard with RPG/strategy)

A few problems I’ve had playing the game:

  • I once assigned 2 gameplay specialists, stupid by me, but I could be warned about it. It felt like a silly mistake with too large consequences
  • I want to have a better overview of games I’ve released, like basic excel-ish lists, instead of having to scroll through every single one of them
  • I would like some more details on games I’ve released, such as which engine it used. Maybe I would like to be able to open the reviews of that game again, to see if it contained some clues I might have forgot about
  • I don’t like how the dialogs and messages pop up. Can’t you look into a civ5 style solution (messages pop up as buttons on the side of the screen, which you can then click to read. If necessary pause the game until dealt with.)
  • I would like the technologies researched to be classified in some way, such as ‘researched in Y2 M3’, just so I get a better idea when a new engine should be created now, or if I should still research some more techs for it.

Can’t come up with anything else off the top of my head now. Generally it’s a great game, and it has a very high ‘one more turn’ factor, or should we call it ‘one more game’ factor?

Oh yeah, another idea, that is probably quite a lot of work, so not suitable for a minor upgrade:

Currently you operate as a game dev company, and you compete with invisible companies.

Why not bring the competitors more into view, and make them a part of the game? Companies compete, release similar games and then fight for the sales. Like GTA vs Driver, or Unreal Tournament vs Quake III in the past. Currently you just release a game, and it goes into an invisible market, in which there is no contact or direct competition.

You could have rival companies, you could maybe even end up buying other companies, sue them, etc… This could also add a lot of depth to the game.

  1. That’s great idea! I think that this can be also great for sequels! For example you relase a Post Apocalyptic / Space game and in sequel You relase Post Apocalyptic / Military game!
  2. I think that is very needed.
  3. More staff is great, because you can generate more points, create games faster. You can also have more specialists.
    Good Ideas!

Good ideas but could have Mod groups that work on the games too.
