I heard about this game from a CoWorker and man did it sound great! I’m a dreamer. I want to make games. So I bought it as soon as I got home, fired it up and started making games… Well I thought I was making something. Then after about 15 minutes I started to wonder. Is this really how they(Green Heart Games) felt when they made this game? Did it really feel as dull as this? It should be fun making something special. but that’s really were this game goes down the drain… You’re never making anything special, your just designing for a fixed time then you publish. Then if you followed the preset formula for each genre you get a highish score. Ohh then repeat.
Why can’t I develop a game for 2-3 years?
Why can’t I just upgrade the game engines?
Why are no competitors? Rivals?
Why can’t I see samples from the games I make?
Why… Why… is this game missing everything?
This game really should have been published as a free facebook game.
Game Dev Tycoon has some flaws such as the review system and some missing features that should’ve been added but the game is a whole lot more complex than a facebook game.
Why can’t I develop a game for 2-3 years? Not profitable enough
Why can’t I just upgrade the game engines? You are, pay attention to what your doing GDT
Why are no competitors? Rivals? Futur upgrade or futur patch I guess ??
Why can’t I see samples from the games I make? Same as above but I wonder that myself…would of been nice
Why… Why… is this game missing everything?
It’s not missing everything, it does miss some things but not everything… Green Heart Games as too start somewhere. To my knowledge he didn’t have millions to put in the game so thats why its so small for now.
Think about it, if you got a couple of 100k or 1m budget… are you able to release a AAA title ?
Is this Beta? Well I can say that I am very happy that I got the game, this game only just came out and from a very small team of developers who just do this as a side job (Right?), you can’t expect to have everything implemented. They added what they thought was right then release the game, and thats what patches are for.
Independent video games (commonly referred to as indie games) are video games created by individuals or small teams generally without video game publisher financial support.
Indie games often focus on innovation and rely on digital distribution.
Indie gaming has seen a rise in the latter half of the 2000s decade, primarily due to new online distribution methods and development tools.
There is no exact widely-accepted definition of what constitutes an “indie game”. However, indie games generally share certain commonalities.
Indie games are developed by individuals, small teams, or small independent companies. And, typically, indie games are smaller than mainstream titles.
Indie game developers are generally not financially backed by publishers and usually have little to no budget available. Being independent, indie developers do not have controlling interests or creative limitations and do not require publisher approval as mainstream game developers usually do. Design decisions are thus also not limited by the allocated budget. Furthermore, smaller team sizes increase individual involvement. Small teams, scope, and no creative restrictions have made indie games known for innovation, creativity, and artistic experimentation.
If this were a facebook game, you’d have to annoy your facebook friends if you wanted to hire any employees by making them your employees. Developing a game would take 3 RL days and you’d have to play some dumb mini-game just to make your people generate bubbles. Of course, you could skip the cooldown between development phases by using up some RL cash tokens to hurry the timer up. Advertising your game would require you post on your wall announcing your company name and the genre and title of your new game. Your company’s “Fans” would be capped based on the number of facebook friends you manage to convince to be ‘fans’ of your game company (bypassed by spending RL cash tokens)
But no, we got an actual game. A game where we pay our $8 and get the full game with no annoying crap that you’d find on a facebook game. I respect Greenheart Games for their decision and have been enjoying their game immensely.
