Is it just me or does everyone that uses the Gameling get huge profits from it?
The gameling is probably the most useful platform in the early game. It gives bonuses to RPGs, and works well with action and casual games too. Maintains a ~20% marketshare for most of its life, even years after its release. Only with the start of the PS1 era does it begin to lose its luster as its tech level starts to lag farther behind what most players have for graphics engines.
It’s main and major weakness is that it only works well with young games, and has a minor penalty (very minor) to simulation, strategy and adventure games.
The vena gear is technically superior (all the same bonuses but a tech level higher) but it doesn’t hold onto the market share like the Gameling does. The PS1 has the same bonus to RPGs and action games (giving up the boost to casual) and holds on to about the same market share, but is a higher tech level, so it doesn’t neuter the effects of your graphics engine as much.
How do you know what technological advances each platform has? there is no detailed response in the game regarding that.
From the wiki raw data tables.
Platform Tech Level table
Console Tech Level
PC none - Note:“None” does not mean “0” it simply doesn’t factor against the tech level of your graphics engine. The PC is exactly as high-tech as your graphics engine.

Wait I don’t understand what that means o.O
Every graphics level has a ‘tech level’ that impacts its benefit to your engine. However, the actual benefit your game gets depends on the tech level of the platform you are developing for. The two scores are averaged.
In practical terms, if you have a more advanced graphics engine than the tech level of the platform you are developing for, its going to get hamstrung a little due to the hardware limitations. Likewise if you have a lower quality graphics engine and develop for a high powered platform, the platform will actually improve your tech level.
The PC is unique in that it doesn’t have a tech level at all. So the tech level of your game is solely determined by how advanced your graphics engine is.
Hmm interesting, I never knew that ;O
