Should I Feel Bad?

nothing confusing about it!
You didn’t own the game legally so you couldn’t use my code…
Tomorrow you are gonna own the game legally so you can use my code

Edit: You can use my code freely after you buy the game offcourse! Not before

The problem here is I never said stealing isn’t bad or he shouldn’t feel bad.

Well I wasn’t being snide as it would be a genuine boon to humanity if you could mathmatically give an equation that explains human behavior. People have been searching for such a thing for a while. It’d be great in the fields of economic development and other such (although use wrongly could lead to facism :x)

I am glad he was able to have a friend to help him out so he can buy the game. Good luck with your future modding.

I just wanted to point out that he did not pirate the game!
I think this is an important point to consider. He was using the game illegally as he didn’t buy a valid license for the game, but he did not pirate the game, as pirating would involve distributing the game (with or without commercial intentions) without permission of the right’s owner.

For the rest, you’re basically right

ok but it was still an illegal copy which is exactly the reason GHG released a cracked version when the game was released

He hadn’t the right to use it that way. That’s correct.

This guy definantly isn’t lying that he is poor. But like what @kristof1104 said. Don’t how you can have a computer that is able to handle TF2 and Black Light Retribution

Hmm… I don’t really know how to think about this. 1 day ago your excuse was that you was poor and you couldn’t afford it within 5 years. How can you afford it now then? Within 1 day you earned 5$ when you weren’t able to do that? That doesn’t really seems legit. So, or your main post was mostly bullpoop or you lied to us. It’s one of the two.

Grandmother… My birthday is in a month. I asked for an early present. She said yes…

’ People are illegally getting a copy of you game, what would you like to do ? ’

  • Stop them
  • Let them be

If you wanted this game that bad you should’ve waited until xmas

I think he/she just wanted to troll. And you fed him/her. But I really like conversations like these.

Because I can identify myself somehow with him/her. I don’t earn much money, I’m not that poor that I couldn’t afford $10|10€|£10|BitCoins|etc. for a videogame, but I need to think at least twice spending money for it (like on almost everything).

But I’m also able to identify myself with the other part somehow. I work as administrator at a erp-system developer.

Since in video rental stores (because of stupid DRM) you can’t borrow games and try them, and a lot of demos in my life were really good and the final release crap, I needed to find other ways to evaluate digital media. Because of this I still have my PS3 (I bought it broken and repaired it) on FW 3.55. Most of you know why.

I have three simple rules/questions (for video games):

  1. Does it take more than 4h to complete the campaign/story etc.?
  2. How good is the price/performance ratio?
  3. Am I addicted? (This one is the most important) combined with do I play it again?

To check rule 1 for Electronic Mass Production games I don’t even have to commit a “crime” since they have their “game-satisfy-guarantee”. If I get through a campaign/story within 48h I can return the game and get my money back. Like in Playstore.

To be honest I pirated GDT, too. I read about it and the torrent “event” on a german IT-News Site (golem.de). So I pirated it and then I ran my three question/rule system and finally bought it. Because on first day I played it about 3h without noticing the time elapsing. So rule 3 was absolutely given. I’m according now 46h of playtime just on steam (purchase was before publishing it on steam).

On GTA V for example I invested about 7h and finished a halfhearted, corny story, with a rotten gameplay. So I didn’t even had to think about buying it. On Quantics Beyond Two Souls and Heavy Rain I’m still playing. So they deserve to be owned. Gran Turismo 6 is another good example for a sloppy game. It’s a shame for the whole series.

I think a fair price is still the best DRM, especially everything can be cracked, spoofed, whatever, anti-piracy doesn’t work. Sometimes it can turn bad things into good, the first xbox for example was modded a real alternative to a HTPC, like the WII now.

I don’t own a lot of games, neither legal nor illegal. But the ones I own are well chosen.
I know many people thinking like me. In Berlin (I think) exists a restaurant where you can order food from the carte, but they don’t have prices because you just pay what you think the meal was worth. And it works.

The problem with digital media and “piracy” is that a lot of companies, like $ony, Micro$oft, Appl€, Warn€r, Di$n€y, etc. want utopistic “prices” for their “loss”. Even they didn’t loose anything, because digital media can’t get lost nor robbed, stolen. This is the main reason why people think piracy does no harm.

I’m only able to copy it. This doesn’t mean I support piracy actively but in many cases (also mine) I can understand the behavior. I understand mentioned companies, too, but I think / I’m sure they should not claim $3,500 for one copy of one game. When I steal a bike worth 150€ I’m forced to pay 150€ + a fine for possible inconveniences. So why do I need to pay even a lot more for a digital “right”.

Edit:
And I really don’t understand German law enforcement, sometimes (here) it feels like a sw-pirate gets more days in jail than a murder. Even someone who embezzles taxes (in my opinion, this is a real crime) doesn’t get jailed that long.

Just my 2 Cents.

Well, if he is like me, a awhile back my family had money, and my dad built a very good computer, could run anything I wanted it too, then he had to have surgery, and well everything went downhill from there. (Now I don’t live with him anymore, but that’s besides the point.) So he could have a good computer, or just a “okay” one and run it on low? Not everyone buys everything at one time, like everyone here thinks they do. Also, it was pointed out before, but internet is really cheap, and or free in some places.

I’m not gonna pretend i never pirated anything, i used to do it a lot,
But Steam came along with its great deals and now i already own 200+ games
And i made a mission to buy most of the games that i really enjoyed

It must suck to be low on money i can remember those times, but if you choose to support the company’s you can go for the indie ones, they really need it the most
