Selling PC to get a mac instead

So I have my gaming PC (Specs Below) and I wanted to get an iMac instead.
I’m moving away from pc gaming and just be doing some casual gaming (Like GDT)
I want to start doing film work, and I know from past experience that sony vegas tends to render better on mac. I also like that with macs, they are pretty resistant to viruses. The one key reason I would be switching is because of error messages. I am just done with getting blue screens when everything seemed to be running fine. Ok now onto the macs, which should I buy? I was looking at a 2008 Mac Pro on eBay because it has an 8 core processor (Woah) and 20gb of ram. Suggestions?
My PC Specs
12 gb 1333mhz DDR3 Ram (1 4gb stick, 1 8gb stick)
3 Core AMD Athlon II X3 Processor
1gb Asus Nvidia GeForce GT 440
1 Terabytes of Hard Disk space (2 500gb hard drives)
DVD RW/CD RW drive

GET IT!

If you don’t want to play… games, You can take Mac.
If you want it to work, You can take Mac.
If it does have 8 cores and 20GB of RAM, isn’t that too much for making movies? Thought it depends on what movie you’ll be doing.

@Haxor 8 cores would speed up the rendering process. video rendering is VERY recourse intensive, so 20GB wouldn’t be over the top really.

Yeah, I know that big-ass movies with so many expolsionz will render long, and 20GeeBee wouldn’t be so much.
But it all depends on what movies he would be working on.
But it still would render with my 6GB Laptop, thought way longer.

Faster it renders the better

Right now on my 12GB PC i’m rendering 30 second clips in vegas and it still takes 5 minutes. I only have a 3 core processor and that’s mainly the reason why.

Lul, I had 1 core, 3GHz (wow), and it rendered 4 minutes wideos 3 min in DoorsMakesMovies*

  • = Windows Movie Maker

Well thats wmm :stuck_out_tongue:

The reason why video-editing, photo-editing and for example rendering things works better on a Mac is becaues it uses a gpu (AMD FirePro) which is dedicated to these things. For casual gaming it is okay though.

Anyways, your gaming pc is not too much of a gaming pc…
cough athlon cough… and you have a GT 440, so that is one of the reasons why it is probably slow with that.

Macs aren’t resistant to virusses… People just don’t make virusses for them.

Most programs rely on good single-core performance :i

A mac is better than a regular PC you can buy in a random store, or ones who aren’t made for workstation use.

Dont be hatin bro, moneys tight /\

and yeah I know my graphics card is old and pretty sucky compared to newer cards, but it runs the games that I want it to (Mirrors edge, Black Ops 2, Gta IV, etc)

Why would you ever sell a PC? Are you even a gamer? I am a gamer and a Marvel fan.
THE EXCELSIOR IS A LIE!

I am a gamer but I only really casually game now. A mac can handle those games just fine.

Just upgrade your PC… It’d be faster than any Imac you can buy. A 3/4770k would be fine, so you’d need a new cpu/mobo ~400 dollars. And then get a better GPU and you’d be set. So 600ish dollars, and you could have a sick computer.

I understand that, but with apples new OS yosemite, its going to support macs as old as 2007, which is pretty old for apple to support. I feel that i would just get more bang for my buck with an apple.

inb4 “YOU NOT REAL GAMER ANYMORE” comments.

Your not a rel gamer

That’s not more bang for your buck? How is that bang for anyones buck? Just because an OS supports a few years old hardware makes it good? I was playing with one of my older computers, from 2004, and I put Windows 8.1 on it, and it ran flawless. So no, not even in Apple terms, is that “bang for your buck”

8 Cores of 3.0ghz? 24 gigs of ram? All for about 700-800 bucks? Imo thats bang for your buck

Clock speed is nothing, and neither is 8 cores. Probably a 8320, which a stock 4 core 4670 would completely crush in everything. And Ram isn’t important? Anything over 8GB’s is useless.

You could build one for 800 dollars that’ll destroy that.

So what your saying is that I could build something with a core 2 duo at 1.5 ghz with 8 gigs of ram and I could still render videos fine. That just doesn’t make sense
