Romance + Simulator

Romance + Simulator should be a good Combo. You know like Dating Sims

I got frustrated when this was not a Good or Great Combo, when it really should be.

The dev doesn’t like dating… don’t make him date. I mean, He’ll get married and we will lose the opportunity to get more stuff with this game…

STAY SINGLE DAMN IT

Time Travel + RPG is also ‘bad’ despite having Chrono Trigger to show otherwise.
As is Pirate + Simulator (Sid Meyer’s Pirates!)
and Virtual Pet + RPG (Pokemon)
and Horror + Adventure (Resident Evil)

This is why I check the wiki for genre/topic combos, as there are too many exceptions to historical examples for me to rely on it based on my gaming knowledge alone.

Exactly. Carmen Sandiego (where in time) was either Time Travel + Adventure (a good combo) or Time Travel + strategy (a bad combo according to the wiki).

Either combo should work.
There are always good historical references to games that have combos that this game says are ‘strange’, or just all around ‘bad’.

Why is “wild west” only good with “RPG” when clearly you can make point and click adventure game with that theme, or an action game (in fact action wild west is a very common theme), and as mentioned, why is ‘pirate’ only good with ‘adventure’?

Space + adventure should be a good combo too (think of the whole ‘space quest’ series by serria, point and click adventure titles!)

And common, Mystery + strategy a BAD combo? 7th Guest and 11th hour were tight! Although I suppose they are considering those games ‘point and click adventure’ but I found them more thought provoking and more in the ‘strategy’ genera.

Ninja + casual is ‘bad’ in this game, but a casual game ‘fruit ninja’ was a surprise hit with young audiences, just a few years ago.

On a similar note, why is “aliens” only good for “everyone” or “mature”?
contra was aliens + action, on the NES, and it KICKED ASS. It was played primarily by kids, and it was in fact aliens and action.

Oh well maybe I’m just splitting hairs at this point? but I suppose it wouldn’t be bad to keep the spread sheet style they have, the way it is, if the game had more analytics to help inform you of ‘bad’ choices… I put a ‘notebook’ suggestion in the ‘general rolling’ thread. I hope it gets implemented. It’s far too long to repost here anyway ^-^;

Considering there have been thousands of games made over the years there’s probably a lot of combinations that worked at some point but aren’t in the game. Some of these topics are so big there was likely a hit game from every genre, so we can’t expect them to have everything as a great combo or there’s no meaning to it.

I find it strange that “Vocabulary” Is only good for everyone and mature. I used to ROCK me some Reader Rabbit as a lil kid.

Yeah, that topic could be learning a foreign language for adults or basic reading for kids.
