[ROLEPLAY] Game Dev Tycoon RP (Off-Topic)

Oh well, I just want to RP and have fun with this forum-based Game Dev Tycoon RP Happy Game Developing guys!

Glad to see youā€™re all willing to learn. The GM, MacDon is kind of overwhelmed, so Iā€™ve fallen into a position of handling everything but game sales and reviews.

@Aragon450 Thats actually perfect. Even the starting money (keep in mind that 5% equals $500k) is in line with the standard starting amount (only the console makers in the beginning got 20%) and itā€™s not a very well documented rule, so you either did your research or got lucky. Most likely the former I would think.

Also, donā€™t worry about researching tech. Instead of dealing with the research process like in the video game, we simply stay in line (roughly) with real life tech. Since itā€™s 1986 in-game, consoles and PCs are no more powerful than they were in real life in the early NES/Commodore 64/ZX Spectrum days.

If you plan to make a console eventually, keep in mind that portables will not be possible until the year 1989, and the Pixel Cube is the exception and not the rule with its CD drive.

Hope you all enjoy yourselves!

I did all my reserch and read everything, I just canā€™t wait to start roleplaying. And yes I know that 5% is the starting value 1% = 100k. And sorry for being such a pest but then as the years advance in the RP the technology upgrades are free right?

Again sorry for being such a pest and since I sent a PM to MacDon let me ask you these questions if you donā€™t mind.

  1. What is the license cost for Arcade & PC games

  2. How long will the RP last?

  3. Do I need the GMā€™s permission to start roleplaying?

Itā€™s no problem at all. Donā€™t worry!

Technology ā€œupgradesā€ are indeed free, though consoles still have a 5 year turnaround as far as we know. We havenā€™t actually replaced a console yet, but either it will be like real life, or we will find that consoles in the RP arenā€™t as hardy as their real life counterparts.

As for your other questionsā€¦

  1. PC games are free to produce, as there is no licensing cost. Arcades have no license but presumably require a significant investment in hardware production like a console would. Unfortunately, console and arcade production costs are still being worked on, and are not yet part of the dynamic/modular RP system we use. You might also consider the Pixel Cube (a console with high specs and free licenses that requires more effort on graphics and sound) or the PugBox (a normal console with a very small market share and free licenses).
  2. Thatā€™s not currently known. Presumably until the present day is reached, but we might got past it. That is, if we get that far. This RP almost died at one point and it may eventually peter out.
  3. No, you can start as soon as you post your company in this off-topic thread - in fact, you can start right now, since you already did so. We just ignore rulebreakers, so thereā€™s no point in keeping potential new players waiting.

Thank you so much! I can finally start playing this awesome roleplay! I promise I wonā€™t be a mean piece of crap or anything, also whoā€™s in charge of the wikia?

The wikia was made by MacDon, but Twyster usually edits it. Anyone really is allowed to edit it since itā€™s a wikia. Just donā€™t break the rules and/or anything else.

Technically MacDon owns it, but I do most of the ā€œkeep it up to dateā€ work. Keep in mind when you upload an image, to look at the name format of other images. Like ā€œLogo_Horse-DrawnGames.pngā€ or ā€œPhoto_R111.jpgā€. I canā€™t rename files because Iā€™m not the admin, so I end up replacing misnamed files with 1x1 white pixel images and re-uploading the file with a better organized name.

EDIT: Like CaptainSnake said, feel free to edit it. I can fix anything you may screw up, so warn me if you made a huge mistake.

Ok then I will, the problem is [This sounds so bad and nooby] Iā€™m kinda lazy to make my own page with my company and all that. Do I have to make a page?

No, you donā€™t have to make a page. It just gives your company a little more ā€œsubstanceā€. Youā€™ll notice most of the companies without pages are no longer active. I could make one for you if you like, since I did most of the company pages myself.

Looking at the speed of this RP, I think Dark Entertainment will have toā€¦leave the gaming market sooner or later. Due to life, I can barely keep up. Just letting you all know in advance.

For a minute there, I didnā€™t think Iā€™d finish that huge update before the end of June! Methinks I stacked up too many things for one month.

I just wrote a book for Macdon XD I think I get a little carried away with these game descriptions, sometimes.

  • I will be probably here randomly throughout the day, doing random RP stuff, so donā€™t worry if I missed anything.
  • Iā€™ll update the budgets since the unpause (Unless @Twyster already has?)
  • For the update I think I have monthly/production sorted, research is a bit trickier (how to balance limiting tech and making it organised). Is there any costs that people donā€™t want before I continue?
  • For merchandising, did I miss any?

I have no idea of anybodyā€™s budget but my own. Too much info was left out for me to properly consolidate it.

There is a mess now.

Is this as far back as the relaunch?

As far back as the topic started.

What ā€œmessā€?

In that RP. I dont really know what is going on, and we dont know budgets, consoles sales.

Iā€™m sorting out budgets now, though I had all pre 1.1 budgets sorted and the console sales were mainly because, originally Gamewagon was the only one being responsive originally.
