I dont understand why all topics are not researchable at the very beginning.
Having a few random ones already researched makes sense, but surely game devs can research whatever the like from day 1
The way to balance this would be to make some topics more expensive (RP) than others
e.g.
Fashion 5
Mystery 10
Aliens 20
Sports 30
Fantasy 40
use CheatMod. it allows you to have all topics since the start…
if you dont want to cheat, well, bad luck, i guess?
If you could research everything from the beginning you can plan out what game you will make when. Of course that’s a lot more realistic, but not being able to plan what games you make when because the topics are totally random and you can’t research them from the beginning adds, for me, a cool little fun aspect to the game.

I like the strategy/planning aspect
I would add to this by bringing forward the ‘trend’ feature and having the option to pay (cash) for market research into the latest trend, the more you pay the more/better info you receive
You can then use this info to target your research
This would be a gamble because if the trend is towards a costly (RP and time) topic, you may not deliver while the trend is still hot
