Exactly what the title says. In the Steam version, it is not needed to have both Steam achievement and the “old” GDT achievements, although these look pretty damn awesome.
The Steam achievements are tied to the GDT achievements, so you basically get a fancier popup for the Steam achievements. They are the same list, however.
Since the base GDT code is the same across all platforms, then it doesn’t make sense to remove the code just because it’s a little redundant.

Not to mention that if you only have the game’s achivements you can’t track them on some social network websites. Having them on Steam makes said achievements trackable on tons of websites.
