Random burst of Hype?

I was playing last night and had the “Strange Combinations” trend fire, so I decide to give it a shot and start building a City + Action game. The moment I began development, I immediately had 40 hype and it started growing like crazy from there…without ANY advertisements and without the boost from a G3 booth.

Sadly, this ended up biting me in the ass, as my game was complete garbage. (I don’t normally do action games and my team wasn’t geared to make them properly)

But I am still curious: Where did that hype come from? I didn’t have any pop-up event notifications telling me about some special reason why everyone suddenly got excited… and I don’t get this kind of hype when I go chasing other trends (Such as starting a simulation game when Sim games are popular). Anyone (or a dev) have any insight into what causes this?

@PatrickKlug - Hopefully will take a look at this later!

Previous G3 conferences can also cause hype for your next game. This was likely the cause of this.

Yeah what Patrick said, this happened to me many times immediately after a G3 Event.

I did not know that. So if G3 happens when I’m in the middle of building a new engine and won’t have a new game cooking by the time the event fires, it is still worth it to buy a booth as my eventual new game will get the hype that I missed. Good to know. Thank you for the response!

I have one follow-up question: Does G3 impact the sales of a game that is already on the market? (but released prior to G3)

Yes it does affect it. As at a G3 event, it hypes the latest two games you have released, (Or 1 Game, 1 Console I think), and hypes the brand as a whole and boosts sales the week after G3 ends.
