So the other night, I showed my wife (who’s also a gaming geek like me) this game.
Right after she clicked away from the “You’ve been transported back in time to the dawn of the gaming era” message, the first words out of her mouth were “Hey, that car… isn’t that that car, yanno, from Back to the Future?”
In all my play-throughs, I never noticed it. I thought it was just a random prop to help stress the idea of ‘you are in your home garage’
I’m pretty sure it is the Delorean from Back to the future. Was one of the first things I noticed in the game as well. Never tried to Make a game named “Back to the Future” as of yet. I just liked the thought of having the car in the garage. That’s easter egg’y enough for me
I saw that on my first playthrough - I ended up bankrupt before leaving the garage.
But I guess Electronic Mass Productions paid me enough to buy another 1.21 Jigawatts of Electricity and try again.
I noticed the DeLorean, but I didn’t mentally connect it to Back to the Future. I just thought it was meant to be a crystal clear “you are in the '80s” sign.
I’d say that yes, it is a DeLorean reference. Now wether or not its an “You’re in the 80s.” message or a “This is your time machine.” I can’t say, haven’t gotten to the R&D lab to see the board.
