Pirate to paying customer

Just wanted to say I pirated your game a few days ago and because I liked it I bought it on steam when I saw it  (not all pirates are bad). Oh one more thing if you release new items into the game do it by either an expansion pack or free in updates don’t do it DLC style and rip off the customers like most developers and publishers do and thanks

If you purchased the game from the GHG store, you would also receive a free Steam key upon release. However purchasing via Steam means you will not get a non-Steam copy of the game.

Also, GHG have thus far released all updates as free patches for the base game. And on Steam, expansion packs are DLC, and DLC in the traditional sense is just mini-expansions at lower cost. Functionally, there is no difference; you merely purchase an update for an existing game.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you on dlc being low cost mini expansions just look at COD £11 for like 4 - 5 maps, I remember the days when maps on most of the games I played were released free with updates or there were a load of custom maps on offer I’m not comparing GHG the likes of activision. What I meant to say was, if they were going to add more content and wanted to charge for it, makes it a decent sized expansion ,relative to the game instead of releasing expensive that doesn’t really add Mitc

What you have to take into account is the fact that game developers need to make their living, creating games is sufficient enough to make a living until they make their next game, but DLC feed the consumers more high quality content and give more fun to the game for the consumers, and they are a quick way of making more “bonus cash,” if you will.

DLC isn’t evil. If you seriously have such a disposition toward DLC, don’t buy it. It’s not required, and quite frankly, other people want the extra high quality content to improve their experience with the game, and if you don’t like that, tough. If developers did updates where you got more maps and content for free, they would be losing money, and that’s how you essentially get yourself to forcibly file for bankruptcy.

Maybe if you were a little older, or you were apart of a game developing company, or even more specifically the CEO of that company, you would understand the financial sides of things and the type of things you have to sacrifice. Releasing extensive and free content to consumers via updates would just hurt the company, and would impact their ability to make new, high quality content for their consumers. You have to open up your mind and see why companies have to do the things they do, maybe then you’ll recognize the amount of single-mindedness you have right now when you look back in the future.

Not necessarily, look at what Valve has done with TF2 and DOTA 2 or Popcap with Plants vs Zombies 2 it can be done. But what I’m getting at is the big developers use it as a cash cow, and inevitable it becomes ‘the norm’. Also look at games like Mafia 2 where it looks like they developed the game and ripped a chunk of it out and released it as DLC later on.
