So in future updates I assume, or at least think and hope, that we’ll get other choices in consoles like arcade machine versions, the Virtual Boy, perhaps games that deal with like the attachments to the console (Zapper and such), Sega 32X and etc, and if you wanted to really stretch it maybe go for those crappy Tiger handheld games and the Konami Laser Scope.
Doesn’t have to be all those but maybe the arcade and VB could make it at least.
Sure, Maybe. The devs would have to make the game longer though, because if they add all that, you would be receiving so many notifications on consoles coming and going. Not sure how it’s gonna work
Agreed, but I just that there were a few things that were missing that were sort of key things in the gaming industry.
This might be added in 1.5… i think…
Yeah. If they were to add it, 1.5 would be the most likely candidate. I, too would like to see more platforms
Thats cool to hear
What about the Power… Glove?..
Ooooh man, that one actually skipped my mind completely… Now that would be something
maybe add Mac into game consoles i think
Never thought of that, but that’s a good thought too even if Mac, from what I’ve heard, sucks major butt when it comes to games.
It’s less of a problem than it used to be. Pretty much all major releases are available on both Mac and PC these days. It’s always been an issue of availability more than anything else. Macs were marketed as production tools for creative professionals, and that reputation didn’t encourage game developers. Now that Apple products are trendy and the difference between Mac and PC is primarily one of operating system (and attitude), the concept of exclusive titles is mostly relegated to indie games. That said, AAA computer games are over-budgeted train wrecks so choked up by DRM that they’re borderline impossible to play, so indie games are the only ones that even really count. Aspyr, at one point, based its entire business model on porting PC games to mac (usually EA published titles, like The Sims and Simcity, but they also ported Deus Ex).
Admittedly, I don’t know the full history of Mac gaming (were Zork and Lemmings multi-platform? I don’t even know) because I didn’t get a computer until the late '90s. Bungie originally developed exclusively for Mac, though. Pathways Into Darkness and the Marathon series are four enjoyable first-person shooters that were, with the exception of Marathon 2, Mac exclusive. Spiderweb Software develops all of their games for Mac first and ports to PC later. I never had any shortage of computer games in my childhood. The only game I wanted but never had was The Elder Scrolls III (and I later got that for Xbox so it doesn’t count anyway).
With Pathways Into Darkness, Marathon, Marathon 2, Marathon Infinity, Exile 1-3 and Blades, Avernum 1-3 and Blades, The Sims (all expansions), Sim City 3000, Sim Tower, Majesty, Caesar II (I frigging love Caesar), Lords of the Realm, Realmz, New Centurions, Avara, Escape Velocity and Override, Cythera, Rainbow Six, Geneforge, Starcraft, Warcraft 3, Diablo II, Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles and various other games I can’t remember the titles of; I always had more than enough games to play and they always ran great (these being games I owned, not just what was available). And that was just during the OS9 era. Once OSX showed up, there were even more gaming options (and I started to lean more towards consoles for reasons unknown).
Point being, there was a time when some big titles didn’t make it to Mac, and that’s mostly untrue now. As a platform it also had a few exclusives of its own. The Marathon games have been re-released as multi-plats, and they’re free now, so I’d recommend them to anyone who hasn’t played them.
Fun fact: Bungie’s Halo was originally going to be a Mac-exclusive title. Microsoft bought Bungie mid-development, which is why the original Halo was released for Mac, PC, and Xbox while future Halo titles would be Xbox-exclusive.
