I’m looking for a way to make this cheaper but still effective; my current build is pretty bad and I’m looking to upgrade and those are the choices I’ve made on my new PC. Any inquiries just comment below.
I’m looking to play Total War Games on high (preferably ultra). I play M2TW, RTW, Empire Total War, and Arena Total War – they’re not too demanding but I might buy newer ones soon like Atilla total war, M&B Warband on highest settings (and still have the ability to possibly have M&B Bannerlord run on mid-high at least). Civ 5 and XCOM: Enemy Unknown/Within on high settings shouldnt be too hard because I can already almost do it on my current laptop. I’m into Eu4, Ck2 and the other paradox grand strategy games but they lag a little on my system (about 20fps) and I want to solve that. I occasionally play Neverwinter and I’d like to be able to run it on higher settings with less lag. GTA IV might be unoptimized but it’d be good to work that into the equation as well. Lastly Starbound lags a lot in places with NPCs. (eg. the outpost)
I might give ArmA 2 a chance if I can get it to run smoother, and I might finish The Bureau: XCOM Declassified if it could run smoother, too.
TL;DR - I picked my parts for my new PC, and there’s a bunch of games that I play that I want to run in (preferably) highest settings. Then there’s a bit more about stuff I might play. I want help on how to make my build cheaper (CAD Dollar) because currently it’s $824 in CAD Dollar. Looking to lower it by about $100 or $150 and still keep the effectiveness - I have OS, Keyboard, and Monitor, and don’t need an optical drive if you’re wondering.
@Today@Haxor I have a job, but it’s part-time and it’s only in the summer; average payout is only around $700-900 and I’m not sure how much I’m going to make from it. Plus, even if I did have something like $850 I’d still want a bit more than $36 to spend. I wasn’t asking how to make money; I was asking how to make my build cheaper but more effective.
@mrdewdew You never fail to impress. I feel like I should come to you if I need tech help, considering out of the 6 replies to the post yours was the only one that helped with the situation.
Anyways, thanks, I might look around and see if there’s any other things I could change a bit but I’ll probably PM you to make sure if it’ll still run effectively as I’m not the smartest when it comes to hardware. (I’m quite better with software. )
It’s set to the Canadian region as well, so it’s all stores and pricing for your area, it’s more than good enough to handle everything listed, and comes in at slightly over $700. Over the budget by $14.
If you need the specs outside of the link or want to copy-paste:
There’s not much comparable to a quad-core Intel CPU other than other i5s and i7s honestly. In games, the AMD offerings result in lower framerates than i3s even when overclocked, and that goes all the way up to (but not including) the recently launched 9XXX FX CPUs by them. As for lower end Intel CPUs, getting the G3258 or an i3 in this case would result in much less performance, so the extra GPU horsepower couldn’t be used as well, and the money saved would be limited. It’s an option, but not a good one if you can avoid it.
There isn’t a cheaper i5 in any of the Canadian stores on PCPartpicker at the moment, besides the i5-4460, which some motherboards require a BIOS update for, which adds hassle and only saves $10, so I went with the 4440 instead.
And as for Cazran, OP is actually a pretty common term, you’ll see it used it pretty much any forum ever. Steam Discussions, Reddit, and practically any gaming forum out there, the term may have originated there, but it’s not exclusive to the site by any means.

I’ve already decided on this build with some approval from @mrdewdew, who helped me in my choice of replacing the video card for one that’s $70 cheaper.
