Massive spoiler Alert! Ways to make you a better developer

As the title said, what is posted here will be a massive spoiler if you actually want to learn the game all by yourself.

Non the less, the link below will take you to a wiki page which gives you info and acces to a Game Dev Tycoon App.

Game Dev Tycoon App

With this App you can among other things, calculate your review score by just filling in your Design and Tech points.

And all though the app does not completly gives away, how to make perfect games it will help you through the whole process and eventually makes you understand what it takes to make good games.

PS.
I am not the developer of this app.

Kinda takes away the fun and excitement, doesn’t it ?

I mean, all you have to do is come up with is a game name.
The calculator will, in fact, make all other decisions about it.

When making a game becomes an automated process, where all the dicisions are made for you, there’s really no point in playing the game anymore.

It’s not meant to use all the time, but you might know that a lot of people struggle with understanding how the game calculates wether your game is good-bad-average.

This tool explains and shows you hands on why your game got the score it got.

Mainly Ratio and Target Score is something in my opinion something new players should know about.

Besides that, it does not tell you anything about staff ( except taking new employees into the calculations )
You can also completly mess up the balance with features.

So as a training tool, i think it’s awesome.

I’m a fairly new player

All I really care about is not going bankrupt.
I just make the games that I think would be awesome (the main power of indie developers)

But yeah, that’s just me.
Maybe I’ll use it if I decide to build an evil corporation of greed, where money is more important that what I release

You’re still not getting it…

People should not use this tool, just to make perfect games.
They should use it, because they want to understand why games are good or bad.

EA also think their games are awesome

Oh I get it.

I just don’t see why anyone would use this instead of just playing the game and learning from their mistakes.
Just like I don’t see why people would alter savegames to get an hundred bazillion million dollars.

Don’t get me wrong, because I do see your point. Let me try to explain mine.

You’ve probably played a game yourself and got stuck. I mean really stuck.
So stuck that you saw no other way to progress, than use a cheat.
And you probably played on and got stuck again. Maybe not as stuck as last time, but stuck enough to use another cheat to progress. And before you know it, you’re using it all the time without really getting your mind into the game.
And then you state that the game is so excruciatingly hard that you can’t enjoy it, when in fact you ruined the experience for yourself.

You know this, that’s why you put a spoiler alert on it

Well in fact, i do not use cheats in games to make it easier for myself.
I did not post this App on this forum for my own use, i have learned the hard way and some wiki reading
that Game Dev Tycoon has a lot “hidden” values within the game.
A lot of people might be turned of, because for them it does not make sence.
With all the slider settings, Genre/Topic, Target Audience and Platform possibilities, Me and the developer of the App understood that the game should not only be for hardcore gamers that are willing to grind for hours just to get it right.
And still don’t understand what they actually did right or wrong in the first place.

If people want to use this app just to have a perfect playthrough every single time, it’s their choice.
I hope people who have trouble understanding the game, use this to have better insight on what makes the games tick.

No cheating involved.

ps. Do not refer to me as someone that uses cheats in games whenever it gets hard…

Please don’t take offense. I’m not trying to stir up a fight.
I din’t mean to emply that YOU personally would use cheats on a regular basis, just that when people decide to succumb and use a cheat (even if it’s just to learn game mechanics), it gets easier and easier to get to that point.
And you (not YOU but people in general) deprive yourself from having satisfaction from beating a tough spot.

If game mechanics are made so that you possibly can’t get a good rating on that Soccer Star life simulator you’d think make a great game, it shouldn’t keep you from doing it anyway.
So I would rather make ‘Lords of Football’ (this game exists IRL, and it sucks big time), and learn from that mistake.

But then again, that’s just my point of view, and how I’d go about it.
If people want to use this app it’s their choice, as you pointed out yourself.
It’s up to the individual to decide if they’ll abuse it or not.

This topic is a two-player vs. argument!
