My old laptop just crashed and I lost all of my files! No!!!
I can’t find anywhere that I can re-download the game but that is probably just my utter and terrible researching skills.
my old files are dead to me
I just need the core game backed up on my new laptop so help would be appreciated.

What version of the game do you use? Steam? Windows store? The normal one?
Yeah, do you use Steam, from GHG store, or Windows Store version?

Redownload steam and redownload game.
Windows/Mac/Linux/PC
Download it from the original email that was sent to you when you bought the game. If you cannot find that anywhere, send an email to orders@fastspring.com about your delivery.
Windows Store

Putting that aside, yeah, meltdowns and losing data because of pc disfunctioning aren’t problems that can be solved by the company that provided the software.
As user @WaveJones stated. How you download the game depends on which edition you purchased.
For the Windows 8 Store edition, please sign in to the windows 8 store on your windows 8 PC, with the account credentials you used when you purchased the game. From here navigate to the user control area to re-download any purchased apps.
For the Standard edition please refer to the original order fulfilment email from our distributor Fastspring, this contains all the download links for each supported platform and a link to your personal order page which contains your free Steam key. Please note that the Steam key is for your use only. If you no longer have this email please contact orders@fastspring.com and ask for your order fulfilment email to be resent.
For the Steam edition please download and install Steam on your computer. Sign in with your existing credentials and from there you can find any purchased games in your library.
For the Humble Store edition please visit https://www.humblebundle.com/ and sign in to your personal account page to access any purchased games. From here you can download them.
