Linking Titles for Franchising Purposes

Hey everyone! After spending several hours with this game now I’ve managed to make it into my 7th year on the first play through! I believe it’s the 7th year… Whatever year the ‘Super TES’ comes out.

Anyway, I thought it would be a funny idea to make a series of games. I call it “Tales of Derpwood” … A fantasy RPG series! After making 4 of these games, a thought came to mind… If I could somehow link these titles, perhaps my fans would build more hype around the series?

Basically I’m suggesting that game developers should be encouraged to make a franchise! In real life, we have games like Halo. A new Halo game will be announced and the developers will spend massive amounts of money on advertising. This determines how many people are guaranteed to buy your game upon release.

I feel if options like this were added to Game Dev Tycoon, we would see a whole different side to the marketing aspect of the game. I fear that this idea may be a little complex for how Game Dev Tycoon is currently setup though, and if anyone would like to add to this suggestion to simplify it a bit, I encourage it!

Thanks for the awesome game! Keep up the good work!

There is a “Sequel” to research so you will be able to make sequels to your games and fans will wait for them
In late game you can build a very huge franchise  For my strategy “Star Control”, for example, I made two sequels, MMO-sequel, a pack of expansions and an another game after MMO closed - fans were excited =)

Since you can already market your Game Engines (in the later stages) so that you receive a steady income from other people using them to make games, it would not be a huge leap to offer and option to ‘Franchise a Game’ with the requirements that at least one sequel has been made. Thus you could get a small but steady income from the royalties of books and action figures, etc.
