I know I’m a bit late, but a friend of mine posted this on facebook earlier today and I just thought I might want to share it.
You know something? This little flower means a lot to me. Maybe it has to do with what it represents. Maybe it has to do with what it means. Maybe its because it is honouring those who have served to give US the right to choose weather or not to wear this valuable symbol. Not just that right but all of the rights that WE value and take for granted on a daily basis. The poppy isn’t about the “glorification of war” that some of us may feel that it is. It is about respect, honour and most importantly remembrance for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for not just our rights, but the rights of others as well. These people are not just Canadians, some are American, British, Australian, Russian, Native American, etc… Please take time to remember these brave men and women not just on November 11 but every day. Without their sacrifices we would not have the freedom we do today.
I would also like to note that this status is not aimed at targeting a specific group who may not be expressing the same opinion as I. It is aimed to be educational for those who may have forgotten what remembrance day and the poppy is really about.
Lest we forget.
