Is there no 3d graphics beyond lv 1?

Just wondering… All my stuff is pretty much at max except 2d graphics v 5 and yet I noticed my 3d graphics have never evolved beyond lvl 1.

I think you can research that a bit later on.

After you have developed some games with ‘3D Graphics v1’ you can ressearch ‘3D Graphics v2’

More specifically if you have experience of at Least Level 1 in ‘3D GraphicsV1’.
So you have to use 3D Graphics in your games to research it …

Once you get to level 3 in 3D graphics you can level it up. I got to year 23 and I had the option to do 3D graphics level 4. Not sure if it goes higher then that.

I also had Stereoscopic 3D as a research option also.

you need to make games with 3d in them to gain experience with it. When you reach level 3 in 3d v1/2/3 etc you can research the next version all the way up to v5 where you need to use R and D

Max level is 5 for 2D and 7 for 3D.

About getting next level, it’s always about your level in the use of the previous graphics version.

For lvl 2/3/4 , You need to reach level 3 in the use of the graphics (level displayed when you finish a game)
If you don’t use 3D graphics lvl 1, you’ll never reach lvl 2

For higher level, I think it require lvl 4 or 5 to get the possibility for research.

For researching 3D Graphics V6 in the R&D Lab 3D Graphics V5 has to be at Level 3.

Sadly no 2D Graphics V6 and 7 implemented.

So is max 3D better than 2d?

Yes, 3D max up at v7 lvl 12 I think while 2D is v5 lvl 12

Not “better” but they’ll work better as you progress. Back before the Playstation it was hard to name a 3D game. Now we’re onto the PS3 it’s hard to name a game with a 2D graphics engine. No AAA title will be released with a 2D grpahics engine.
Try and follow the history of game design and you’ll be on roughly the right path.

AAA isn’t my style.

I go for large games or MMOs in 2D style, mainly because I focused on it so much during early game.

Make small game and discard them to upgrade your 3D graphics level.
Fast and easy, even more if you pick new topic/genre combination.
