Initial sales for XX Have fallen way below expected numbers. Game received outstanding reviews but the chosen platform in't very popular with the target audience

I get this message literally every time when releasing titles on the Gameboy (Gamelink). I tried young, mature and all with different categories but always get this message. Low sales despite great reviews (often 9 and 9.5 overall).

How do I stop this or how do I see which is popular with the target audience on the platform? Trial and error? Done that 20x and still figured it out. Wiki and ingame help section is of no help as no things like that are covered.

That’s strange, I never seen this message for Gamelink / Young audience combo (as indeed, Gamelink is related to Y-audience).

As far as I know you have to be more specific about that in development.
There are not that many young strategy/simulation fans on the gameling out there…

The Game Development is more complex than you think. It is not only ā€œGameling is Young fans only!!!ā€ or the like.

^ you clearly didn’t read my post. I tried at least 20 different combos. From casual to sim over action etc. I get this message 9 out of 10 times regardless which combo. Only on the gamelink, not on any other consoles. And when gamelink has highest marketshare it’s a pain. On Playstation, TES, PC etc I don’t get this message, or if so very rarely. And I always try tweaking different combos to find out. But the game doesn’t give enough feedback to learn. It’s all trial and error and extremely frustrating, esspecially when you get constant 9+ rated great games and they don’t even or barely break even.

Feedback would be a very important thing for the devs to add. Being able to see charts in the game history panel showing what was good and what was bad. Game Development is very complex, but developers also compute a lot of data and have metrics to look at when they start their next game.

It is based not just on target audience, but also the genre and topic. It would be pretty weird to make a surgery sim for young kids.

Sell your Bullfrog games on the PC ::slight_smile:

P.S. Please support EMS memory when you release, I am not very good at tweaking memory with QEMM and I want to be able to use my mouse in the game. Thanks.

Make sure to modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS according to the directions in the README.TXT!

I got this same thing about the platform for my Mature Werewolf Adventure on Playsystem

Kids really hate time-travel games  I guess they don’t want to hear or think about anything ever happening before they existed.

I did read the post and I did understand.
You just didn’t got my point it seems.

The Gamelink is popular for young audience. There are few ā€˜Everybody’ and even less ā€˜Mature’.
So far so well known.
Kids usually just don’t like specific genres. No matter how good or bad they are.
Surgeon, Hospital, Transport, Timetravel, Dungeon and many other just won’t work.
Next up Kids don’t like specific genres. Strategy and Simulation never worked for me as far as I remember. But RPG, Adventure and Action do.

On the contrary ā€˜Mature’ don’t outright love Adventures. And they are not dancing all around for the topics ā€˜Comedy’ and some others.

Long story short:
If genre, topic or target audience are of the optimal range the message is triggered.
That message box is missunderstandable as only refering to target audience. It is not.

I’m suprised I loved Doctor Who as a kid.

Maybe Dr. Who was a Time Travel / action multigenre.

I get high sales, low ratings lol
