Remember when the “cracked” game dev tycoon had that nice feature, people piracying games? Yes! I love it! Please, add piracy protections to the game, it will add more challenge
Hmmm when someone “steal” game, make a code when enter to 2nd office piracy destroid them or it will be so hard to play
Well…the thing with DRM is that pirates don’t really give a , and sticks paying customers with the hassle of various restrictions in how, when and where they can play the game they paid for.
People who doesn’t want to pay, will find a way not to do it.
And people who pay are stuck with problems and restrictions, that’ll generate loss of fans.
DRM is effectively a waste of money and a loss of sales from legitimate customers, and implementing it should reflect that.
Unless of course the game is reasonably priced, enough to make customers not care, and with a non-invasive DRM technology.
And as you cannot set your own prices in GDT, you can basicly only hurt your sales.
DRM is a self defeating paradox in terms of profits.
Invasive DRM may not hurt initial sales from a given title, but it WILL hurt sales from following titles.
And pirates will still not give a rats ass.
Even though Steam is loved among gamers, and let’s be frank - they do provide a great platform, you’re still pretty restricted to play 1 game on 1 PC. So you can’t play Skyrim, while your kids are playing Sims 3, even though you paid for both. And what do people do to get around that ? They pirate fixed *.exe files to be able to play games they paid for.
A perfect example that DRM in fact causes piracy.
And seriously, I doubt that GHG will go through the trouble of implementing something that will only hurt the player experience.
Just to be clear, I’m fully aware that you’re talking virtual DRM for your virtual releases.
But being a sim type game, an implementation should be somewhat unbiased, and I think that’s virtually impossible from a developer companys point of view.
Positech games tried remain unbiased with Democracy 2, a political game, but failed, because they basicly set up the games succes criteria to strive for the political systems used today, and undercutting systems with greater potential.
O god. @Charlie! Someone blew the fuse of the F-Bomb! It could doom us all!
Oh wait. He’s a cowboy so… Yeah. He’s a Darkened Cowboy who plays Donkey Kong.
The F-word sentence is what best describes what goes through the mind of a pirate, when he clicks a torrent.
They don’t give a single. And they do not stop.
DRM is a bigger annoyance for legit license owners than for pirates, and that’s pretty much a rock hard fact.
I think in the game this could be a great idea. Say you have 100,000 sales, and say you have 30,000 fans, you could have about 15-20% of people pirate the game in losing sales, but this can cause more fans
Ask yourself: How big are the odds of someone with little or no money, would buy a game if they couldn’t pirate it ?
Sales are not determined by DRM, but selling price combined with customers desire and ability to pay.
If anything, DRM would harm sales at best when empeding regular customers.
The whole idea that pirates has ability and intent to buy, if not for piracy, is just ridiculous.
It could add a realistic factor to the game. Get fans because they like the game but won’t buy it but you lose money.
True. I want more kind of realistic stuff in the game, it would make it more interesting.
what about Multi-platform releases???
Hello, I would like if you did STEAM option to restart the entire game (archivment, EE, score …)?
I am with @DarkcowboyDK on this,
In my opinion adding a piracy protection feature to the game will only hurt the paying customer.
I heavily disaprove of all the failed efforts developers add to the game to cut back on piracy, while instead they’ll make it worse.
I skipped on loads of games recently because of Always Online, DRM, etc etc… Simply because i want to play a game without having to worry about my wifi or anything that can affect my gaming experience.
Having it implented into Game Dev Tycoon as a feature to add to my games… No thanks
It’d be better if the 2nd office actually got attacked by a pirate ship, like in Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life.
I just don’t get why anoone would like to implement something, that historically has shown to have absolutely no effect on piracy.
The only known effective DRM known, is online requirement with server based content.
And what a joy that has been for paying customers. Diablo III, Sim City 5 and what not.
Everything else has just been money wasted.
I see how it could make an effective ‘gold-sink’ in the game though, if you happen to be too successful.
Pirates copy because it’s free and they don’t want to pay. That doesn’t mean they would pay if that was the only option.
Claiming that developers lose sales due to piracy, is like claiming that hookers lose sales because of relationships.
How’s that for an analogy?
The developers said its a possibility for the next game but not this one.
The people that run the business part of the big companies started adding drm when games started to move to online downloads I doubt it was the devs/people that actually know how the games work choice at least that’s what I think happened.
@LEGOAlliedForce nah the third office so it could be like Star Trek fighting pirates because of how the desks look.
Yeah, I think you’re right.
More often than not, it’s a dumb-ass in a suit that comes along and screws things up.
Anyone with a real job and actual useful skills know this.
do you mean there will be a game dev tycoon 2 ???
you know what i want in the game competitors that auctaully do stuff like release new consols steal your buisness customors fans and sometimes they even steal your games and rip them off
mybe you can do the same to them and sue them stuff like that
Greenheart you do not think the port on the ps vita
