Sounds confusing but read this and you would be like: ooooooooooooooohhhhhhh…
My question to the developers or skilled computer persons is how to I transer save files to maybe a) Another Computer b) Store it on a flashdrive, Skydrive, etc
I know this option is not in the game but can I go into the game files and look for my save file? This would be helpful for me and maybe for you!
First you need to turn off cloud save in steam. Then you need to copy every folder and file in these locations and make sure you can view hidden files and folders.
User/appdata/local/game dev tycoon-steam/
Those folders and files are
Cache
GPUCache
Local Storage
Cookies
Cookies-journal
Also have to copy the folder and file in
2. C:\program files (x86)\Steam\userdata(your steam number)\239820
The folder and file are
Remote
Remote cache.vdf
These can vary depending on where you have them stored. After you copied them save it to a USB thumb drive or a CD and transfer it to another computer.
Steam should transfer files automatically if you have cloud save on. If you just want to go from one computer to another. But my method makes it so you can save your files if you want to start a new game but not delete your old ones.
If I copy and save the files, how am I going to transfer the files to another computer? It says
"Cant verify C:\Users…\AppData\Local\Game Dev Tycoon\Local Storage" whenever I want to delete the current save (blank save) and replace it with the backup save I copied.
I hope you understand what I said. Im not a technologist or techy guy.
While its always a good idea to backup your saves and store them on a usb drive, we don’t support replacing saves on systems with a cloud service.
You dont need to delete your old save games, you can simply paste the backups over and they will replace the original file. However the Windows 8 store has its own cloud service which will redownload any saves as soon as it connects to the internet so you don’t need to do this between devices using the windows 8 store.
Would you consider to make it easier for people to both back up saved games and play on multiple computers?
On Mac, the save game location is in a hidden folder (Library) and that’s not really user friendly. I also like to play on my Mac Pro, but would also like to be able to continue to play on my MacBook Air, so if I could chose the save game location myself, I would chose Dropbox and the saved game would be available on any computer I own, And if compatible - even on Windows computers if I had nothing else to do in the office
Thanks
