How to run your MMO's?

How do i run my MMO’s without the use of Conventions? Like G3 and Own Convention?

MMOs and Conventions are two separate concepts in GDT. Both are researched in the R&D lab in Stage 3 (The larger office).

Conventions will build up your fanbase, and will boost the sales of whatever game is currently selling. They do not have any MMO-specific functionality.

MMOs require research in Internet Opportunities first, then MMOs, then you must create an Engine with MMO support, and finally you can create an MMO game. The initial sales figures for MMOs work much the same as any other game, with the review score heavily affecting how well it sells. However, once the product lifecycle is over, most games are taken off the market; this is not the case with MMOs. Instead, server costs start to rise until it costs more to run the game than you are receiving from subscriptions.

At this point you can either close the MMO, or release an expansion. Expansions are effectively Sequels that automagically revive a flagging MMO, massively increasing its sales (but not reducing the server costs). Currently, MMOs are slightly unbalanced in that Expansions always mean more profits, and the MMO never has to die, but this is being looked at along with many other things for a possible update in the future.

PS. I’ve moved this topic from the Ideas category to the GDT category as it is less of a suggestion and more a generic question on gameplay.
